EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND -- (Marketwired) -- 01/30/14 -- Online identity proofing service miiCard announced that former SWIFT Chief Executive Officer Lázaro Campos, previous Vice President of SecureWorks Richard Lewis, and prior Clydesdale executive Kenny White have all joined the company's Board of Directors. These experienced executives will help guide miiCard as it continues to gain traction in key financial markets. Mr. White has also joined miiCard as Chief Financial Officer.
"miiCard is actively turning the tide against online identity fraud -- one of the most pressing problems facing financial technology companies today," said Mr. Campos. "I look forward to helping this bank-centric disruptive solution further advance trust online."
Identity fraud is increasing at a rapid rate because the background checks, knowledge-based assessments, and documents scans used as identity verification tools have been compromised or discourage consumers. It is estimated that ID theft costs businesses $21 billion annually in the US alone, with nearly half of these fraudulent transactions occurring online. Further, every $1 in fraud costs a business more than $3 in total losses. miiCard's patented Identity Service (IDaaS) can be deployed in just hours and reduces fraud by more than 80% within the first 30-days.
"The issue of trust and security online is an urgent and universal one as evidenced by the incredible assemblage of talented executives that have joined miiCard and its Board of Directors," said miiCard CEO James Varga. "Their experience and connections in the financial and security industries will be invaluable as we expand our identity verification platform to combat fraud around the world."
Mr. Campos has served as a senior executive in the global financial community for 25 years. Most recently, he acted as the CEO of SWIFT, the international payments body, where he also held a number of other positions over a long and successful career within the organization.
Mr. Lewis is a security industry veteran, having served as a Sales Director and then COO at managed security services firm dns Limited, and then as Vice President of SecureWorks after its acquisition of the company.
Mr. White has held a number of positions within the consulting and financial service sectors, including at Arthur Anderson, Deloitte, and most recently as Director of Finance at Clydesdale Bank. He is currently serving as CFO for miiCard.
miiCard's IDaaS helps businesses across the financial, healthcare, online recruitment, P2P and other industries verify their customers' real identities to the same level as a physical photo ID check, purely online and in just minutes. With this new level of trust, miiCard enables a range of disruptive new services while minimizing dropout, eliminating costly offline identity verification methods, and dramatically reducing fraud.
miiCard's Level of Assurance 3+ identity verification and authentication service leverages the authority and security inherent in a member's online financial accounts to prove identity to a passport or photo ID standard. The miiCard platform offers a wide range of features for financial service companies including identity proofing, personal data, strong multi-factor authentication, financial transaction data and security features available through simple API's and hosted services.

In the next five to ten years, millions, if not billions of things will become smarter. This smartness goes beyond connected things in our homes like the fridge, thermostat and fancy lighting, and into heavily regulated industries including aerospace, pharmaceutical/medical devices and energy. “Smartness” will embed itself within individual products that are part of our daily lives. We will engage with smart products - learning from them, informing them, and communicating with them. Smart produc...

More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smar...
