PeriGen Launches Web-Based Tool, Category II Management Algorithm at SMFM Annual Meeting

Complimentary App Supports Management of Patients During Fetal Heart Rate Category II

CRANBURY, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- 02/04/14 -- PeriGen, the global leader in providing evidence-based perinatal system solutions with real-time clinical decision support, today announced the launch of its new web-based tool, Category II Management Algorithm. The online tool is based on a recent publication by noted clinical experts and is intended to support the management of patients during FHR category II -- which affects more than 80 percent of labors.

The free app, available at www.perigen.com and accessed via mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets as well as PCs, is being launched this week at PeriGen Booth 704 during the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) 34th Annual Meeting at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans.

The app is based on the article "Intrapartum Management of Category II Fetal Heart Rate Tracings: Towards Standardization of Care" published in the August 2013 edition of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The article's authors are OB experts including PeriGen Chief Medical Officer Thomas J. Garite, M.D. By answering a few questions about the tracing and labor status, the application will process this information through the algorithm and present its conclusions. Users can get to the suggested outcome in seconds within four to eight clicks.

"More than 80 percent of patients in labor spend time in the FHR Category II," said PeriGen CEO Matthew Sappern. "The impressive body of research that has expanded over the years and resulted in this publication reflects the work of few that truly touches many. PeriGen is pleased to support the authors by extending real-time access to all of this remarkable work to clinicians."

PeriGen will demonstrate its PeriCALM® fetal surveillance solutions and the new Category II Management Algorithm app in Booth 704 at the SMFM annual meeting.

PeriGen also has a strong event presence in post-graduate and poster presentations. Dr. Garite is co-director of the full-day post-graduate courses titled "Electronic Fetal Monitoring 2014: Where Are We?" on Feb. 4. His co-director is Sean C. Blackwell, M.D., Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, UT Health-University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Emily Hamilton, MDCM, FRCSC, FACOG, PeriGen's senior vice president of clinical research, will present:

  • A post-graduate course on "Current State of Computerized FHR Interpretation" on Feb. 4 from 1:40 to 2:20 p.m., CST and
  • A poster presentation on "Baseline Variability in Normal Term Births and in Births Complicated by Neonatal Depression" on Feb. 7 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. CST.

The past few years have brought a sea change in the way applications are architected, developed, and consumed—increasing both the complexity of testing and the business impact of software failures. How can software testing professionals keep pace with modern application delivery, given the trends that impact both architectures (cloud, microservices, and APIs) and processes (DevOps, agile, and continuous delivery)? This is where continuous testing comes in. D
Recently, REAN Cloud built a digital concierge for a North Carolina hospital that had observed that most patient call button questions were repetitive. In addition, the paper-based process used to measure patient health metrics was laborious, not in real-time and sometimes error-prone. In their session at 21st Cloud Expo, Sean Finnerty, Executive Director, Practice Lead, Health Care & Life Science at REAN Cloud, and Dr. S.P.T. Krishnan, Principal Architect at REAN Cloud, discussed how they built...

The “Digital Era” is forcing us to engage with new methods to build, operate and maintain applications. This transformation also implies an evolution to more and more intelligent applications to better engage with the customers, while creating significant market differentiators. In both cases, the cloud has become a key enabler to embrace this digital revolution. So, moving to the cloud is no longer the question; the new questions are HOW and WHEN. To make this equation even more complex, most ...
