New report to shine spotlight on Big Ideas in electric mobility

International coalition opens call for most innovative ideas advancing electric vehicle adoption

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Energy Agency's Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Implementing Agreement, the Clean Energy Ministerial's Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI) and the smart city think-tank, Urban Foresight, today announced the opportunity to submit nominations to a new EV City Casebook, the second volume in a series highlighting leadership and best practices in advancing electric mobility. 

"The great achievement of the first EV City Casebook was to show how 16 leading cities and regions were putting the right pieces into place to encourage EV adoption," said David Beeton, Managing Director of Urban Foresight. "This showed the tremendous progress being made around the world to establish EV readiness. However, some two years later, the challenge is to look towards future take-off in global markets for electric vehicles and to understand when and how this transformation will happen."

The 2014 EV City Casebook will highlight examples of policies, technologies, projects and business models that could bring about a step-change in EV adoption. Submissions should present solutions to key barriers to adoption of electric vehicles, present new insights on global developments, or highlight promising innovations that could have a major influence on the future of electric mobility.

"Today we are seeing a rapid growth in innovative projects that are incorporating vehicle electrification into transport and energy systems in new and interesting ways," said Urs Muntwyler, Chairman of IEA Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Implementing Agreement. "Collectively, these projects are demonstrating the long-term viability of electric vehicles and we look forward to uncovering new projects from around the world."

Entries from city leaders, entrepreneurs, businesses, and researchers are being accepted until March 31st, 2014.

Originally published in 2012, the EV City Casebook: A Look at the Global Electric Vehicle Movement," addresses best practices for electric vehicle usage in 16 North American, European and Asian cities, sharing experience on EV demonstration and deployment and identifying challenges and opportunities. EVI seeks to facilitate the global deployment of 20 million EVs, including plug-in hybrid EVs and fuel cell vehicles, by 2020.

Formed in 1993, the International Energy Agency's Implementing Agreement for Cooperation on Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Technologies and Programmes is a membership group of representatives of 18 national governments to produce and disseminate balanced, objective information about advanced electric, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles.
