Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women National Committee Canada, will receive the Outstanding Women Leadership Achievement Award from the World Women Leadership Congress on Friday, February 14th in Mumbai, India.

"It is a great honour to be recognized especially with the tremendous caliber of women leaders in the world today. This recognition symbolizes how far women have come, however, it also highlights how far we still have to go. It is only when women are recognized in all spheres of society as equal partners to their male counterparts that we will have truly achieved the ultimate reward--equality," said Ms. Jiwani.

"The award recognizes Ms. Jiwani's significant contributions towards social change, helping women to achieve equal rights within the domestic and economic spheres and for her excellence and dedication to philanthropy," stated Dr. Bhatia, founder of WWLCA. "She has brought a new face to humanitarianism, most notably for her initiatives in bridging the gap between the corporate and humanitarian world. Her efforts to create change, despite the obstacles in place have been recognized across the globe and continue to gain international attention."

The award consists of a statuette and a citation will be presented to Ms. Jiwani at the World Women Leadership Congress & Awards 2014 ceremony.

More About the Award:

The landmark Declaration, adopted by the General Assembly on Dec. 10, 1948, reaffirms that, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights," and that, "everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, birth or other status." As the international feminist movement began to gain momentum during the 1970s, the General Assembly declared in 1975 as the International Women's Year.
