Access to information on the go has always been challenging for users in this digital age. USB's, Portable hard drives, Laptops, Smart phones have helped in this endeavor to an extent. But the real challenge is in accessing the most critical information at the right moment. Unfortunately often a user relents that he/she doesn't have the right information at the right moment. Personal cloud offers the perfect solution for this challenge by enabling a user to access his/her information which is synced across multiple devices (of the user), on the go, at the right moment.

Personal cloud has been in market for the past few years but the real growth has started over the last couple of years and the market is expected to grow by leaps and bounds in the near future. With so many players in the foray, consolidation is yet to take place and may occur in the next two years. Except for first movers and innovators most players will find themselves closing shop or merging with companies having deep pockets in the future.

Establishing a market size and arriving at forecast is an arduous task, as the market is highly fragmented and consolidation is yet to take shape. Also majority of the players in this market offer variety of services and claim their services to be the true. At present the market is split between hosting at provider premise (by service provider's data centers) and personal cloud hosted at user premise (using NAS devices). In the long run both will coexist but hosting at provider premise will attract larger chunk of the market and be responsible for the growth of this market to a larger extent.

The global market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 45.61%. Major growth will be witnessed in North American and European markets where as APAC, MEA and LA will also witness significant growth.

I recently attended and was a speaker at the 4th International Internet of @ThingsExpo at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
