The US market for electronic cigarettes (also called e-cigs) is estimated to be worth $1 billion and is expected to grow at 80% in 2014. Recent M&A deals and VC fundings, as shown by PrivCo's proprietary industry search tools reveal major players placing their bets on e-Cig industry leaders. Two notable developments include: Altria's acquisition earlier this month of e-Cig manufacturer Green Smoke for $110 million, and North America's other market leader, NJoy, raised $75M in June in a funding round that included the Founders Fund and Sean Parker.
Further PrivCo research brings to light a number of likely Private Company acquisition targets. PrivCo's Top 5 e-Cig Private Company Acquisition Targets include:
1. NJoy, Inc - The company raised $75 Million last June from Sean Parker (founder of Napster), Douglas Teitelbaum, and Founders Fund. NJoy is a leader in the US space, alongside Lorillard's blu. 2. Logic Technology Development LLC - The Florida-based company does not have any announced VC backers but has already gained a strong foothold on the East Coast. Logic claims 600% revenue growth in 2012 alone. 3. VMR Products, LLC (dba V2 Cigs) - V2 has a strong and growing distribution chain in place, claiming to be adding over 1,000 new locations weekly after previously distributing exclusively online. 4. FIN Branding Group, LLC - FIN has already secured distribution agreements through Wal-Mart and 7-Eleven stores and has carved out its niche as a lifestyle brand. 5. Johnson Creek - A manufacturer of both e-cigarettes and e-cigarette cartridges, Johnson Creek manufactures and distributes its products through its own e-commerce platform and through wholesale channels.
