Fully-featured WebRTC-enabled platform provides a solution for themes like Social Enterprise and Real Time Communication
Milan, February 11, 2014 - Italtel, a leading telecommunication company in Next Generation Networks, Value Added Services and global IP-IP communication, today announced the release of its Embrace Solution, a software-only and cloud-ready Web Application Package.
The solution can be used to enable WebRTC services both in telecommunication networks and within an enterprise ICT infrastructure, as a standalone WebRTC solution.
WebRTC is expected to be a turning point for communications. By the end of 2014, there will be 1.7 billion WebRTC-supporting devices of which almost 500 million will be mobile devices. Overall device support for WebRTC will grow with a CAGR of 57% (2014-2016) reaching 4.2 billion by the end of 2016 (Disruptive Analysis, October 2013).
"WebRTC is likely to become one of the most interesting innovations in communication to date. It is making real-time voice and video communications available for anyone using a web browser," said Stefano Pileri, CEO of Italtel.
Fully developed at Italtel R&D labs, Embrace enables WebRTC multimedia communication - a fully-featured software application bundle with advanced capabilities enabling real time communication services in a clientless solution.
"Our Embrace WebRTC Solution provides the support infrastructure to broaden enterprise unified communication service delivery, while reducing complexity, costs and enhancing enterprise efficiency through easy configuration. Embrace Web Application Server introduces the concept of web convergence in real time communication and becomes the heart of the multi-technology conference environment," continued Pileri.
Embrace offers a WebAS "engine" for Video, Voice and multimedia services, enabling clientless communication using a common web-browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) and a WebRTC Gateway based on Italtel NetMatch-S product enabling communication towards the existing IP voice and video communication domain.
"The way we work is changing more and more rapidly: people work remotely using different and multiple mobile devices and organizations need to communicate and collaborate easily, both internally and with customers and partners. Embrace is a state-of-the art technology which really enables organizations to be multimedia "friendly", leveraging basic services like audio, video, chat, real-time file sharing, and desktop sharing," added Pileri.
WebRTC is used for multiple vertical applications encompassing Home Banking, Healthcare, Interactive E-Learning and Education, Enhanced Call Centers, Adult Entertainment, Online Gaming, M2M, Telematics & Systems Monitoring, Financial Services and Retail Banking.
In the enterprise context, Embrace can be integrated as the ubiquitous access point for contacts with remote-working or travelling employees, as well as for communication from customers or suppliers to the enterprise. Additionally it can be located in an already deployed ICT infrastructure and customized to cover specific needs due to the high flexibility of its applications and implemented APIs.
A live demo of Italtel WebRTC solution will be available at Mobile World Congress (Barcelona, 24-27 February 2014) at Italtel Meeting room 2E33MR (Hall 2).

Embrace is the Italtel WebRTC Solution, enabling multimedia communication within one or more WebRTC domains spread in the Cloud. The Solution is a SoftWare Suite conceived for virtualized environments and Cloud, which is able to supply the mutual functions of a WebRTC WebAS (Embrace WebAS) and of WebRTC Gateway (NetMatch-S). The latter is fundamental towards VoIP "legacy" operators (interoperability with NGN and IMS domains) and/or other web domains (interworking with UCC platforms, like Cisco and Microsoft Lync).
Additionally Embrace can be deployed also in enterprise environment and possibly integrated in own ICT infrastructure.
Embrace enables real-time communication and provides services as follows:
- Web-based voice/video calls
- Enterprise contact center
- Multi Party Conferencing
- Instant Messaging
- File and desktop sharing
- Audio & Video Transcoding
A rich Application Programming Interface (API) suite enables various extensions for specific use cases, facilitating new business opportunities.
Italtel designs, develops, implements solutions for NGN and NGS; Professional Services dedicated to the design and maintenance of networks; IT System Integration Services; Network Integration and migration activities. Italtel counts among its customers more than 40 of the world's top TLC Operators and SPs. In Italy Italtel is also reference partner of Enterprises and Public Sector for the deployment of IP Next-Generation Networks and for the development of multimedia convergent services for their customers. WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.

In 2014, Amazon announced a new form of compute called Lambda. We didn't know it at the time, but this represented a fundamental shift in what we expect from cloud computing. Now, all of the major cloud computing vendors want to take part in this disruptive technology. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, John Jelinek IV, a web developer at Linux Academy, will discuss why major players like AWS, Microsoft Azure, IBM Bluemix, and Google Cloud Platform are all trying to sidestep VMs and containers...

A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.

Providing secure, mobile access to sensitive data sets is a critical element in realizing the full potential of cloud computing. However, large data caches remain inaccessible to edge devices for reasons of security, size, format or limited viewing capabilities. Medical imaging, computer aided design and seismic interpretation are just a few examples of industries facing this challenge. Rather than fighting for incremental gains by pulling these datasets to edge devices, we need to embrace the i...

Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels. With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way.

IoT is at the core or many Digital Transformation initiatives with the goal of re-inventing a company's business model. We all agree that collecting relevant IoT data will result in massive amounts of data needing to be stored. However, with the rapid development of IoT devices and ongoing business model transformation, we are not able to predict the volume and growth of IoT data. And with the lack of IoT history, traditional methods of IT and infrastructure planning based on the past do not app...

All organizations that did not originate this moment have a pre-existing culture as well as legacy technology and processes that can be more or less amenable to DevOps implementation. That organizational culture is influenced by the personalities and management styles of Executive Management, the wider culture in which the organization is situated, and the personalities of key team members at all levels of the organization. This culture and entrenched interests usually throw a wrench in the work...

Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards. HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular basis. Each protocol has its pros and cons depending on the nature of the communications. Does there really need to be only one protocol to rule them all? Of course not. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chris Matthieu, co-founder and CTO of Octoblu, walked through how Octob...
