SAN DIEGO, Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Biocom, the association for the Southern California life science community, congratulates San Diego's newly elected Mayor, Kevin Faulconer. Last month, Biocom held a press conference at Arena Pharmaceuticals announcing a unanimous endorsement for Kevin Faulconer for mayor.
Expected to be sworn into office on March 3, 2014, Kevin Faulconer will replace Interim San Diego Mayor, Todd Gloria, who will return to his post as City Council President.
"Kevin Faulconer has a proven track record of being able to bring all parties together to respond and resolve the needs of San Diegans," said Joe Panetta, President and CEO of Biocom. "It is evident that Kevin Faulconer understands the importance of the life science industry and is committed to positioning San Diego as an attractive and growing economy for creating career jobs and expanding access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics education."
The life science community is one of the economic drivers of the region, and at the moment a majority of the cluster is located in the City of San Diego. It is one of the few local industries which continued to grow during the recession, and provides jobs which earn an average of over $100,000 per employee per year.
Biocom is one of the largest regional life science associations in the world, representing more than 600 member companies in Southern California. The association focuses on initiatives that position the region's life science industry competitively on the world stage, and on the development and delivery of innovative products that improve health and quality of life.
