Leading IT solutions provider behind innovation platform, CODE_n offers a sneak peek at the UK big data finalists
London, 13th February 2014 - GFT UK, one of the world's leading providers of IT solutions for the financial sector, today announced an exclusive preview next week of CODE_n and the UK big data startup finalists three weeks ahead of the official program at CeBIT next month. Now in its third year, CODE_n is internationally esteemed as a global innovation platform, fostering innovation by combining the agility and fresh spirit of young entrepreneurs with the network and experience from leading companies. In its first three editions, more than 1,000 startups applied to the CODE_n contest. For this year's CODE_n, GFT is joined again by EY and CeBIT as global partners.
On Tuesday 18th February at EY's London offices, Ulrich Dietz, GFT's CEO and initiator of CODE_n, will be joined by avant-garde designer, Clemens Weisshaar, EY's Rob Toguri and the UK finalists to provide a preview of CODE_n. The UK finalists are big data startups Deltasight, EnergyDeck, TvBeat, Massive Analytics, SOMA Analytics and Viewsy who will be battling it out amongst the other 44 finalists onsite at CeBIT for the CODE_n14 Award with prize money amounting to €30.000.
At next week's London preview, Weisshaar will also unveil all the visuals which will provide amazing 50ft backdrops around Hall 16 at CeBIT next month, in a spectacular visualization of CODE_n's theme of big data. These wall-to-wall installations capture the importance of generating big data to explain history, solve problems and highlight trends. In one of the images, Weisshaar and Kram present a depiction of Google Books data - documenting the most popular narrative and social trends in literature over time, dating from 1800 - 2008.
CODE_n's big data topic aligns closely with CeBIT's own key theme for 2014, Datability, and is especially relevant for the work GFT UK does in this emerging technology space with its capital markets clients.
"Big data is a hot topic for all our clients and over the last 18 months we have delivered a number of big data projects from enhancing a client's business intelligence capability to dramatically improving the speed of a client's calculation engine - Big data is having a considerable impact on their business models" states Christopher Ortiz, Managing Director at GFT UK. "Innovation in big data is key to providing a competitive edge in capital markets and the CODE_n startup finalists will be behind some of the most disruptive technology in the space today. We are especially looking intently at the UK finalists as they will be well positioned to work closely with us in the City."
The UK CODE_n finalists are:
// SOMA Analytics @SOMAAnalytics
This Google campus based startup has pioneered its Kelaa technology which senses an employee's stress levels based on smartphone movement data. Its corporate 21-day program is likely to be popular with HR departments across financial services and other high pressure environments as it will help to increase employee health and reduce executive burnout.
// Viewsy @iseeviewsy
Viewsy provides analytics for offline retailers by supplying insights into customer behavior patterns, such as customer loyalty and time spent in the shop. This type of real-time data will be highly valuable to investment bankers with retail or retail property portfolios.
// TvBeat @iptvbeat
TvBeat monitors the behaviour of TV viewers and processes this data in real-time, making this key information available to cable companies, broadcasters and advertisers. This information will be highly insightful for investors in the broadcast media and advertising industries.
EnergyDeck is a powerful, community-based platform that helps organisations save energy costs. It harnesses crowdsourced information and the principles of behavioural science to provide energy efficiency in a useful context. Energy efficiency will be an important indicator of potential commercial property success and issues as they arise.
// Deltasight @Deltasight
Deltasight is an innovative analytics platform that aggregates and fuses data from different sources to create a central, global innovations database. It was designed specifically for R&D, business, and technology transfer professionals. In the future, this IP information will have the potential to be major part of M&A and funding due diligence as well as becoming a way to establish the IP asset of an organization for use in lending negotiations.
// Massive Analytic @MassiveAnalytic
Massive Analytic enables organisations to optimally access, compress, transfer, analyse, and store data - for faster and more effective decision-making. This ability to analyse big data without having to first break it down into sub-sets will vastly increase the speed of big data analysis, a key factor for financial services.
The GFT UK team will be onsite at CeBIT with all the CODE_n hopefuls as well as meeting clients and prospects who want to find out more about GFT's services.

However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, rich desktop and tuned mobile experiences can now be created with a single codebase – without compromising functionality, performance or usability. In his session at DevOps Su...

Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
