CORRECTION FROM SOURCE/Outstanding Offering This Summer: Montreal-Trudeau Ranks Fourth in North America for Number of Direct Flights to Europe

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 02/17/14 -- This document corrects and replaces the press release that was sent today, February 17, 2014 at 8:00 AM EST.

Aeroports de Montreal (ADM) is pleased to announce the new air services that will be available this summer at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

Starting in May, travellers will enjoy an unmatched array of flight options, especially to European destinations. Direct flights will be available from Montreal to no less than 28 European cities-among them Prague, for the first time in several years. Montreal-Paris will remain the best-served international route outbound from Canada, with up to seven daily flights to either Charles de Gaulle or Orly. Overall, carriers flying to Europe will be offering 13% more seats than last year.

"We are proud to say that this summer, Montreal-Trudeau will rank fourth among all North American airports for the number of European destinations served by direct flights, ahead of major hubs like Chicago and Atlanta," said James Cherry, President and Chief Executive Officer, ADM.

He added: "Montreal-Trudeau has definitely become a dynamic hub linking North America and Europe, in particular French-speaking European countries, with connecting traffic showing constant growth."

ADM is confident that travellers will be numerous on both sides of the Atlantic, and is forecasting solid growth in its passenger traffic for 2014. Traffic through Montreal-Trudeau was up by 2.1% in 2013, reaching 14.1 million emplaned and deplaned passengers. International flights (which exclude the U.S. service) accounted for 38% of total traffic, the highest proportion among all Canadian airports.

New carriers, destinations, and frequencies

On June 3, Montreal-Trudeau will welcome two new carriers: Turkish Airlines (Istanbul) and Copa Airlines (Panama City). With their extensively developed networks, they will considerably improve Montreal's connections to several regions of the world, including Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Latin America.

For the summer season, Air Transat is adding Prague to its roster of destinations, and will fly to 20 other European cities: Athens, Basel, Barcelona, Bordeaux, Brussels, Dublin, Istanbul, Lisbon, London, Lyon, Madrid, Malaga, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Paris, Porto, Rome, Toulouse and Venice.

Lufthansa is launching a new Montreal-Frankfurt route, with five flights per week, in addition to its daily flight to Munich.

New leisure airline Air Canada rouge will be flying to Barcelona, Nice, Rome and Athens for the first time, while its parent, Air Canada, has announced increased capacity on its Brussels, Geneva and London routes.

Air France, Corsair, British Airways, Swiss and KLM will each offer the same level of service as last summer.

Looking at routes to North Africa and the Middle East, Air Algerie has added capacity to its Montreal-Algiers service. Casablanca, Morocco, Amman, Jordan, and Doha, Qatar, are the other cities currently served by direct flights out of Montreal-Trudeau.

Vacationers flying to the Caribbean will once again be well served, with a choice of 22 non-stop destinations, while Air Canada rouge will take over some routes previously flown by Air Canada.

All in all, this summer Montreal-Trudeau will have direct flights to 112 international destinations (the total including winter-season destinations is more than 130), ranking it second among Canadian airports for the number of direct destinations.

The web app is agile. The REST API is agile. The testing and planning are agile. But alas, data infrastructures certainly are not. Once an application matures, changing the shape or indexing scheme of data often forces at best a top down planning exercise and at worst includes schema changes that force downtime. The time has come for a new approach that fundamentally advances the agility of distributed data infrastructures. Come learn about a new solution to the problems faced by software organ...

Culture is the most important ingredient of DevOps. The challenge for most organizations is defining and communicating a vision of beneficial DevOps culture for their organizations, and then facilitating the changes needed to achieve that. The hard truth is that many IT managers have risen through the ranks based on their technical skills, not their leadership ab...
