NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 02/17/14 -- ZAKA International Rescue and Recovery recently announced a merger that will unite United Search and Rescue (USAR) that will operate henceforth with ZAKA based out of the greater NYC area. Lee Rosenberg, chief of the New York based rapid response SAR team, brings with him many years of search and rescue experience that along with the entire USAR team will greatly enhance operational resources. USAR has operated and been instrumental in numerous rescue operations, having been recognized for the team's heroic efforts during Hurricane Sandy where they were on the receiving end of accolades for their effectiveness.
ZAKA, which was founded in 1989 in Israel in response to terrorist attacks, has since developed into an international agency with over 3000 volunteers in over 17 countries. ZAKA is proud to be recognized by the United Nations as an NGO.
"USAR has assembled a diverse and skilled team that specializes in search and rescue operations. Having United Search and Rescue partner and operate under the ZAKA banner will add value to our mission and gives us the ability to expand our operations and help more people," said Zvi Gluck, the Chief of Operation of ZAKA International.
ZAKA hosted a dinner and team meeting at its International Headquarters in downtown Manhattan to officially launch its partnership with USAR, where ZAKA Chairman Meir Gurvitz presented the search and rescue team members with their official ID cards and uniforms congratulating and welcoming them. A working meeting ensued discussing operational plans to improve the unit to better serve the public. Meir Gurvitz concluded the program by emphasizing he could not be more proud of the work that ZAKA is doing, and looks forward to the growth of the group.
