PITTSBURGH, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the 12th consecutive year, Highmark is hosting its Walk for a Healthy Community fundraiser to benefit nonprofit organizations. Online registration is now open for walkers. The annual spring walks will occur in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Bethlehem, Johnstown and Erie for the benefit of 184 nonprofit organizations across Pennsylvania.
Highmark's Walk for a Healthy Community provides a yearly opportunity for community members to support participating local nonprofits of their choice. Because Highmark underwrites all of the costs associated with the walks, 100 percent of community members' fundraising is donated to the charity they select. To date, the walks have raised more than $6.5 million for health and human service organizations across Pennsylvania.
"We invite community members to sign up to walk and become part of this important effort," said Dan Onorato, Highmark executive vice president. "The walks provide local nonprofits with vital fundraising and offer walkers a scenic route for exercise. They also draw the community together to support nonprofits offering crucial services to us and our neighbors during our lifetimes."
Walkers can register at www.walkforahealthycommunity.org, where they can select their walk location and the nonprofit beneficiary of their choice. Both a 5K (3.1 mile) route and a one-mile fun walk are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. All locations offer free parking, refreshments, entertainment and prize drawings—adding up to a healthy and enjoyable outdoor community event.

A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.
