Greek premium wine producer Domaine Porto Carras launches new marketing program in California

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Greek premium wine producer Domaine Porto Carras, imported by Old World Vines, is launching a new U.S. export program in California in March.  Porto Carras has a respected portfolio producing wines with the esteemed French VDQS designation (Vins Délimités de Qualité Supérieure), indicating a wine of superior quality. Importer President Katy Bendel Daniels said, "We're honored to represent the domaine and we know the wines will have a place on wine lists, shelves and in home cellars. Quality, value and above all taste will tell."

The marketing program, supported in part by the European Union and the Greek government, will include market visits in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Napa.  A new website http://www.portocarraswines.gr/en  has been created as a resource for trade, media and consumers.  Export Director Stefanos Kavialotis will be joined by Porto Carras owner Yliana Stengou in several cities; the schedule includes consumer, trade and media events in each market. The Empire Events agency from Grass Valley, California has been retained to execute the programs.

Domaine Porto Carras is the largest organic vineyard in Greece with 475 hectares (1,174 acres). The hilly areas in the region create excellent ecological conditions for cultivating the 28 local and foreign varieties that thrive on the southwestern slopes. Celebrating its 50th anniversary with more than 90 awards earned over the last 8 years and revolutionary wine-making history, Domaine Porto Carras represents a turning point in Greek enology. Its location is a valley that was chosen to be hidden from the public, both from the road and the sea, thereby protecting the beautiful landscape for generations. The father of modern wine-making, University of Bordeaux Professor Emile Peynaud, assisted in developing the first Greek Cabernet Sauvignon. Ideally adapted to the chalky and schistose soils of the domaine, Porto Carras' Cabernet has won many awards internationally.

Old World Vines specializes in authentic, old and ancient varietals from Greece, Hungary and Slovenia. Some of the best of these premium boutique wines from Central Europe are now being introduced to the world market. The wines are from families who have been growing grapes and making wine for centuries; many are now winning medals internationally and taking top honors locally. The majority of the wines have limited production, some only 800 bottles. Many of these varietals are indigenous to their region which makes them highly prized by connoisseurs.
