Tarana Wireless Unveils Universal Wireless Transport Breakthrough With Massive 1.5 Gigabit Capacity and Dedicated 250 Mbps NLoS Links

Tarana Wireless®, the market leader in universal wireless transport solutions that uniquely deliver True Non-Line-of-Sight™ (T-NLoS) for unmatched deterministic performance, announced the introduction of its AbsoluteAir™ 2 (AA 2) product line. Operating in the sub-6 GHz bands, AA 2 extends Tarana’s innovative Concentrated Multipoint (CMP) topology with support for up to six dedicated 250 Mbps NLoS links and an aggregate capacity of 1.5 Gbps. All links operate at full capacity in a single 25 MHz radio channel, yielding unrivaled spectral efficiency of 60 bps/Hz (refer to Figure 1). While others claim NLoS support, only Tarana delivers real-world performance, zero touch provisioning and operation, and scalability without compromise.

The unrivaled performance of Tarana’s AbsoluteAir solution is driven by the company’s unique patent-pending technologies. Tarana’s Space-Time Adaptive Radio (STAR™) incorporates a range of advanced signal processing and dynamic adaptation techniques that maximize spectral reuse, cancel RF interference, and leverage multipath to deliver high capacity T-NLoS links. STAR’s precise signal control enables Tarana’s CMP design, a single-hop star topology. This uniquely delivers fully dedicated and committed capacity per link and like a network switch, scales linearly as additional links are added – unlike competitive products that split bandwidth among all the links. By combining deterministic performance and T-NLoS performance, Tarana sets a whole new benchmark for low infrastructure and operating costs in a range of wireless transport applications. Tarana has been proven as unbreakable and unrivaled in successful commercial deployments and field tests by tier-1 carriers. In a 31-site field trial in lower Manhattan, Tarana demonstrated full-capacity performance on NLoS links blocked by many buildings, trees, moving vehicles, and other obstructions, at distances ranging from several hundred meters up to 3 km – locations where other approaches had failed. Beyond unrivaled performance, AbsoluteAir includes a range of critical features for successful high capacity wireless transport rollouts.

  • Tarana Universal Frequency Reuse™ technology enables scalability across metro areas, from sparse to dense deployments, with no degradation in capacity while making maximum use of a single frequency channel. As a result, it eliminates time-consuming RF frequency planning both initially and during ongoing operation as the network is expanded.
  • Tarana Self-Organizing Network (T-SON) enables links to connect and continuously self-adapt to the time varying RF environment. Tarana uniquely incorporates self-aligning antennas on both ends of each link for zero-touch setup and operation.
  • No-limits Siting Agility enables deployment of Tarana AbsoluteAir anywhere power is accessible, dramatically reducing real estate costs and accelerating time to deployment.

As a universal wireless transport, AbsoluteAir has the flexibility to be deployed for a range of high capacity backhaul applications that share a common set of requirements for extremely high capacity, real estate flexibility, deterministic T-NLoS, spectral efficiency, low latency, fast deployment and zero-touch operation, and low total cost of ownership. Applications for AbsoluteAir include small-cell backhaul, last mile fiber extension, fixed wireless access, back-up connectivity, tactical mobile operations, utilities, and public safety.

The Tarana AA 2 system includes the AA 2 End Node (EN) that provides a single 250 Mbps wireless link, and the AA 2 Concentrator Node (CN) that aggregates up to 6 links and 1.5 Gbps capacity. The EN and CN support licensed and unlicensed TDD bands up to 25 MHz and from 2.3-5.8 GHz; integrate MEF compliant carrier Ethernet switch; support industry standard 1588v2 and SyncE. The ENs can operate as part of the CMP or in a point-to-point topology. The Tarana AbsoluteAir Element Management System (EMS) is a web-based graphical user interface used for configuration and management of all Tarana AbsoluteAir solutions. Product availability of the AA 2 will be in the second half of this year.
