Government of Canada Supports Search and Rescue Volunteers with New Tax Credit

COURTENAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/19/14 -- Canada Revenue Agency

The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C., M.P., Minister of National Revenue, accompanied by the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of State and Chief Government Whip and Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, today visited the Comox Valley Search and Rescue Hall to promote the new search and rescue volunteers tax credit announced in Economic Action Plan (EAP) 2014.

The search and rescue volunteers tax credit will be available to search and rescue volunteers who perform at least 200 hours of eligible service during a year, and provides up to $450 in tax savings for these dedicated individuals as they serve their communities. The new tax credit builds on the Government's record of tax relief and the introduction of the volunteer firefighters tax credit in EAP 2011.

EAP 2014 also expands on the Government's measures to improve Canadian communities by investing $305 million over five years to extend and enhance broadband Internet service for Canadians in rural and Northern communities; $390 million over five years to strengthen confidence in the food Canadians eat; and $250 million in new measures to better prepare Canadians and protect them from natural disasters.

Quick Facts

provincial/territorial, and municipal organizations, as well as ground,
air, and marine volunteer search and rescue organizations.
-- There are approximately 85,000 volunteer firefighters in Canada. The
hours volunteered for search and rescue along with firefighter
    activities can be combined.
-- There are three key national search and rescue associations that help to
support and guide Canada's volunteer search and rescue community.
Together, they represent some 18,000 volunteers across the country.
-- The Civil Air Search and Rescue Association is a Canada-wide
volunteer association dedicated to the promotion of aviation safety,
and to the provision of air search support services to Canada's
        National search and rescue Program.
-- The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary is a Canada-wide volunteer
association dedicated to maritime search and rescue and the
promotion of boating safety, and provides assistance to the Canadian
Coast Guard in maritime search and rescue.
-- The Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada was
established by the provincial and territorial associations to
provide a national voice for ground search and rescue volunteers in
Canada. It aims to address issues of common concern and to develop
consistency and promote standardization or portability of programs
and volunteers across the country. Including the volunteer
firefighter tax credit, over 100,000 volunteers will benefit from
        the credits.

You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
