fashiontv and NEC Collaborate Globally on Fashion-Related Advertising Service for Smartphones

Tokyo, Feb 20, 2014 - (JCN Newswire) - fashiontv, an internationally broadcast television channel specializing in fashion, and NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE 6701) announced today that they are entering into a global collaboration on a fashion-related advertising service based on image recognition features of smartphones.

Starting today, the two companies will successively launch "fashiontvscan," a smartphone application that features free-of-charge fashion-related content services and advertising services for businesses in 23 countries and regions (*).

fashiontvscan lets users view videos and read news stories on the latest in fashion. As users direct their smartphones towards TV commercials, newspaper ads, magazine ads, outdoor signboards, posters and others, the app recognizes images, photos and logos then guides users to designated websites, where they can obtain detailed information on fashion items, campaign information and coupons.

The fashiontvscan app is equipped with NEC's independently developed "GAZIRU" image recognition technology, recognized as one of the world's top-class recognition technologies. The app works with GAZIRU to smoothly display information and allow users to conveniently shop online, saving them the trouble of searching the Internet.

The two companies will capitalize on fashiontvscan to offer services that guide consumers to company websites and provide big data analysis, including marketing-related services that help analyze the behavioral history of users guided to such websites.

fashiontv is an exclusive fashion-dedicated entertainment channel, airing programs featuring the latest fashion trends on a 24/7 basis to approximately 350 million households throughout the world. With brand power in the fashion industry and a global-level viewer base, it operates an extensive online advertising business, including a wide range of promotions on YouTube. Today, amid trends toward multi-channel corporate promotions and the expansion of e-commerce markets, there is a need for effective promotions that seamlessly attract users from conventional ads and video content to online services.

NEC is currently placing a focus on the social solutions business in order to offer leading-edge big-data-based technologies, products and services under the brand name of NEC Big Data Solutions. The services provided under this partnership represent a forward looking expansion of big data-related sales into a wider range of industries, which is necessary for the future growth of big data-related business.

Features of fashiontvscan include:

1.Services for Individual Customers

1.Leading-edge fashion-related videos
Users can view videos featuring fashion shows and events held in different parts of the world featuring popular models, designers, celebrities, behind-the-scenes stories in the fashion industry and lifestyles - all free of charge.

3.Topical information about brands

The service offers the latest information about fashion brand events and bargain information.

4.Image recognition service

Simply by running fashiontvscan and holding their smartphones over an ad or other specific object, users can instantly go to shopping and other related websites. They can use the service through intuitive operation, with no need for search-engine-based text searches.

2.Advertising Services for Businesses

1.Promotion Support Service
The service supports companies' promotions by guiding fashiontvscan users to designated websites when they hold their smartphones over television, newspaper and magazine ads, outdoor signboards, posters and others. This allows advertisers to offer users detailed product and promotional information, lead them to their shopping websites and make coupons available.

2.Behavioral Data Collection Service
fashiontvscan makes use of GAZIRU PLUS, a service newly added to GAZIRU, to collect data on what interests users and what information they have obtained. This allows businesses to offer optimized promotions according to targets, objectives, places and time slots, and to plan their marketing by analyzing collected data.

Going forward, the two companies will continue to enrich the content available through fashiontvscan and to expand its availability. They will also build ties with telecommunications operators and advertising agencies throughout the world in order to expand the advertising service business.

fashiontv and NEC will display this service at Mobile World Congress 2014, Hall 3, Stand No. 3N10, scheduled in Barcelona from Monday, February 24, 2014 to Thursday, February 27, 2014.

Based on its Mid-term Management Plan 2015, the NEC Group is working towards the safety, security, efficiency and equality of society. Going forward, NEC aims to develop solutions for a wide range of social issues, as a compa

When growing capacity and power in the data center, the architectural trade-offs between server scale-up vs. scale-out continue to be debated. Both approaches are valid: scale-out adds multiple, smaller servers running in a distributed computing model, while scale-up adds fewer, more powerful servers that are capable of running larger workloads. It’s worth noting that there are additional, unique advantages that scale-up architectures offer. One big advantage is large memory and compute capacity...
Both SaaS vendors and SaaS buyers are going “all-in” to hyperscale IaaS platforms such as AWS, which is disrupting the SaaS value proposition. Why should the enterprise SaaS consumer pay for the SaaS service if their data is resident in adjacent AWS S3 buckets? If both SaaS sellers and buyers are using the same cloud tools, automation and pay-per-transaction model offered by IaaS platforms, then why not host the “shrink-wrapped” software in the customers’ cloud? Further, serverless computing, cl...
You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
The taxi industry never saw Uber coming. Startups are a threat to incumbents like never before, and a major enabler for startups is that they are instantly “cloud ready.” If innovation moves at the pace of IT, then your company is in trouble. Why? Because your data center will not keep up with frenetic pace AWS, Microsoft and Google are rolling out new capabilities. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Don Browning, VP of Cloud Architecture at Turner, posited that disruption is inevitable for comp...

IoT solutions exploit operational data generated by Internet-connected smart “things” for the purpose of gaining operational insight and producing “better outcomes” (for example, create new business models, eliminate unscheduled maintenance, etc.). The explosive proliferation of IoT solutions will result in an exponential growth in the volume of IoT data, precipitating significant Information Governance issues: who owns the IoT data, what are the rights/duties of IoT solutions adopters towards t...
It is ironic, but perhaps not unexpected, that many organizations who want the benefits of using an Agile approach to deliver software use a waterfall approach to adopting Agile practices: they form plans, they set milestones, and they measure progress by how many teams they have engaged. Old habits die hard, but like most waterfall software projects, most waterfall-style Agile adoption efforts fail to produce the results desired. The problem is that to get the results they want, they have to ch...
Wooed by the promise of faster innovation, lower TCO, and greater agility, businesses of every shape and size have embraced the cloud at every layer of the IT stack – from apps to file sharing to infrastructure. The typical organization currently uses more than a dozen sanctioned cloud apps and will shift more than half of all workloads to the cloud by 2018. Such cloud investments have delivered measurable benefits. But they’ve also resulted in some unintended side-effects: complexity and risk. ...
With the introduction of IoT and Smart Living in every aspect of our lives, one question has become relevant: What are the security implications? To answer this, first we have to look and explore the security models of the technologies that IoT is founded upon. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Nevi Kaja, a Research Engineer at Ford Motor Company, discussed some of the security challenges of the IoT infrastructure and related how these aspects impact Smart Living. The material was delivered interac...
The Internet giants are fully embracing AI. All the services they offer to their customers are aimed at drawing a map of the world with the data they get. The AIs from these companies are used to build disruptive approaches that cannot be used by established enterprises, which are threatened by these disruptions. "When we talk about cloud without compromise what we're talking about is that when people think about 'I need the flexibility of the cloud' - it's the ability to create applications and run them in a cloud environment that's far more flexible,” explained Matthew Finnie, CTO of Interoute, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 20th Cloud Expo, held June 6-8, 2017, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY.
