The definition of IoT is not new, in fact it's been around for over a decade. What has changed is the public's awareness that the technology we use on a daily basis has caught up on the vision of an always on, always connected world. If you look into the details of what comprises the IoT, you'll see that it includes everything from cloud computing, Big Data analytics, "Things," Web communication, applications, network, storage, etc. It is essentially including everything connected online from hardware to software, or as we like to say, it's an Internet of many different things. The difference is that what have in the past been disparate and disconnected systems are now rapidly becoming uniform, connected, and always-on systems.
This shift in computing triggers new demands and requirements that will put existing infrastructures to the test and most likely cause massive disruption in the technology echo system, as old players can't keep up with new more agile players. As with any major technology shift it is important to stay open minded to new ideas and emerging technologies, technologies that may help you stay ahead in the next 10 to 20 years.
With this explosive growth in connected devices, predominantly Web-enabled and Web-accessible devices (yes, we're thinking about smartphones, tablets, vehicles, utility meters, apparel, and more) the demand for more live information, communication and distribution of data over the Web will grow exponentially. How are we going to be able to address these potential?
In their session at Internet Of @ThingsExpo, John Fallows, Co-Founder & CTO of Kaazing, and Jonas Jacobi, Co-Founder & President of Kaazing, will discuss these issues and how the HTML5 WebSocket standard is accelerating the Web for an IoT World, and it is moving into its next phase, morphing from a static and stale network to a live, interactive, and constantly changing mesh of always-on communication.
John Fallows brings to Kaazing his 17 years' experience in technology development and software design, and is considered a pioneer in the field of rich and highly interactive user interfaces. As CTO he formulates Kaazing Corporation's vision of enabling mobile users, marketplaces and machines to connect and communicate in real-time, more reliably and at unprecedented scale. He defines the architecture of the Kaazing product suite and oversees its development.
Prior to co-founding Kaazing, John served as Architect for Brane Corporation, a startup company based in Redwood City, California. Before joining Brane, he was a Consulting Member of Technical Staff for Server Technologies at Oracle Corporation. During his last five years at Oracle, he focused on designing, developing, and evolving Oracle ADF Faces to fully integrate Ajax technologies.
Originally from Northern Ireland, he received his MA in Computer Science from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and has written several articles for leading IT magazines such as Java Developer's Journal, AjaxWorld Magazine, and JavaMagazine (DE), and is a popular speaker at international conferences. He is co-author of the bestselling book Pro JSF and Ajax: Building Rich Internet Components (Apress).
Jonas Jacobi has 21 years of experience leading the development of innovative technology products and services. Together with Kaazing's Co-Founder & CTO John Fallows, he pioneered and championed the groundbreaking HTML5 WebSocket standard.
Prior to co-founding Kaazing he served as VP of Product Management for Brane Corporation, a Silicon Valley startup dedicated to developing a market-leading enterprise platform for building model-driven apps. Before Brane, he spent 8+ years at Oracle where he served as a Java EE and open source Evangelist, and was Product Manager in the Oracle Application Server division for JavaServer Faces, Oracle ADF Faces, and Oracle ADF Faces Rich Client.
He is a frequent speaker at international conferences on accelerating and scaling secure enterprise-grade WebComms (Web Communications).
