Telrad Networks Announces Availability of TD-LTE on BreezeCOMPACT Multi-Technology Base Station

Release Empowers Broadband Wireless Operators With Optimized and Cost-Effective TD-LTE Solution

BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwired - February 24, 2014) - Mobile World Congress -- Telrad Networks, a global provider of innovative sub-6 GHz LTE telecom solutions, today announced the release of TD-LTE on its Multi-Technology BreezeCOMPACT Base Station. The LTE release is the latest addition to Telrad's solutions to provide operators with optimized broadband wireless technology.

This announcement follows a recent succession of product releases last fall, including the 7000 Series of Dual-Mode CPEs that allow operators to evolve to TD-LTE at their own pace -- without disrupting service continuity. The TD-LTE release addresses the challenges operators are facing in providing fixed and nomadic broadband services to end users, while overcoming the complexity and risks associated with a technological evolution to TD-LTE.

The BreezeCOMPACT base station is one of the advanced products that were added to Telrad's product portfolio as a result of last year's acquisition of Alvarion's 4G division. Its versatility is based on a powerful Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform designed to support an economical and non-disruptive software-only evolution. Telrad's addition of the LTE capability will widen the market for the product.

"Our R&D team rolled out this technology in record-breaking time, a matter of mere months, and we're very clear where we are headed next -- which is LTE-Advanced," said Ran Bukshpan, Telrad's CEO. "As we continue to pioneer innovation with our products, we're very pleased with this effort to deliver a technology that enables forward-thinking operators to be successful -- while also facilitating a network evolution path across multiple 4G technologies."

Adlane Fellah, CEO of Maravedis Rethink, said, "TD-LTE initially experienced a slower than expected adoption rate. The high cost, lack of a product ecosystem, and the fact that some operator-required features were not yet addressed by the technology played a role in the slowdown, especially among smaller and more remote operators. Telrad supports a niche market of smaller operators and WiMAX providers that are not falling into the purview of the bigger LTE players. I believe 2014 will be a big year for the mass adoption of LTE for these types of operators."

Mark Altshuller, CTO of Telrad, added, "Using our BreezeCOMPACT product, and its inherent SDR technology, WiMAX operators are able to migrate to LTE with a very quick and simple software-only upgrade. Our current product line and roadmap are strategic in supporting key LTE deployments, including those requiring Fixed and Mobile Convergence (FMC) -- a growing trend."

In addition to its field-proven, BreezeCOMPACT family of base stations, visitors to Telrad Booth #CS124 can learn more about the company's suite of high-performance products, including its newest CPE7000 Series, dual-mode WiMAX and LTE devices. Telrad is demonstrating their portfolio of broadband solutions at the world's largest mobile show, Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain, February 24-27, 2014.

Both SaaS vendors and SaaS buyers are going “all-in” to hyperscale IaaS platforms such as AWS, which is disrupting the SaaS value proposition. Why should the enterprise SaaS consumer pay for the SaaS service if their data is resident in adjacent AWS S3 buckets? If both SaaS sellers and buyers are using the same cloud tools, automation and pay-per-transaction model offered by IaaS platforms, then why not host the “shrink-wrapped” software in the customers’ cloud? Further, serverless computing, cl...

The now mainstream platform changes stemming from the first Internet boom brought many changes but didn’t really change the basic relationship between servers and the applications running on them.
