Latest Trends in Rhinoplasty in NYC Take Nose Jobs to New Heights

Current Trends in Plastic Surgery Tout Rhinoplasty as a Fashion Statement Amongst Teens and Adults in New York City

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 02/24/14 -- Statistics gathered during the last few years show a considerable rise in aesthetic and cosmetic surgeries in both teens and adults in NYC. Amongst all the procedures, rhinoplasty reigns supreme.

The reason teens and adults find rhinoplasty as a convenient form of body modification is apparent. Compared to the rest of the body, the nose reaches full maturity at a younger age thereby making rhinoplasty available for a majority of age groups.

Celebrity trends have also contributed to the increased interest in the procedure. An article in the Huffington Post mentions that the look of Kate Middleton's nose has sparked nose job frenzies amidst New Yorkers. In fact, the New York Daily News also goes so far as to call Middleton's perky nose as "spring's hottest accessory." A segment on Fox News also mentioned rumors of a "Middleton inspired rhinoplasty boom" on the East Coast while the Daily Mail added that the royal nose inspired procedures in rhinoplasty have tripled since 2011. As a result, there have been a growing number of royal nose requests during the last year.

Dr. Philip Miller, MD, F.A.S.C., one of New York's leading facial plastic surgeons and a recognized expert in the field of rhinoplasty, argues that the need for procedures such as rhinoplasty is not always to achieve perfection. Adults or seniors often resort to the procedure to rectify nasal deformities or to look young. Teens that do opt for the procedure might not necessarily be following specific trends either. In fact, some teens choose rhinoplasty to escape the bullying that is triggered by having noses that are disproportionate to their faces.

When asked why rhinoplasty procedures are seeing upward trends amongst both teens and adults, facial plastic surgeon Dr. Philip J. Miller had this to say, "Kids can be cruel and will poke fun at something that seems different from the norm, even if that something happens to be a larger or disfigured nose. You can't protect your children from what happens during recess. And a procedure that helps rectify the source of the bullying is a welcome prospect for most parents."

The facial surgery specialist also argues that adults opt for the procedure because it is one of the safest and the most common aesthetic procedure of its type.
