edu(k)ate was launched to address Congressional and Department of Labor concerns of a lack of financial literacy and unsustainable savings rates in qualified retirement plans nationwide and especially amongst the younger workforce. By implementing game inspired techniques edu(k)ate has seen a dramatic increase in the willingness of employees to complete financial learning.

The industry since the creation of the Pension Protection Act in 2006 has focused on providing "investment advice" to retirement plan participants. However, studies have shown the lack of successful retirement outcomes is largely impacted by employee contributions and not the return of investments.

Furthermore, even with the advent of automatic enrollment plans, 401(k) participation is nowhere near 100%. It should be a top priority to provide basic financial education to all employees to give them the information they need to "Start."  Traditional retirement plan education is generally reserved for the participating employees only. 3.   Employees create an account and start to learn, monitoring the leader board all the way!

4.   When the contest ends, employees are awarded, camaraderie is achieved and the employer gets a report of the analytics documenting their efforts. The data is also used to make better decisions around benefits spending and reduce fiduciary risk.
