SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Phillips Edison & Company announced today that their Salt Lake City office has been awarded LEED Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for commercial interiors. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the nation's foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
"Achieving LEED Silver certification is yet another illustration of Phillips Edison's proactive thinking and continued commitment to our associates and the surrounding community," said Bob Myers, Chief Operating Officer. "Our Salt Lake Green Options Team spent countless hours behind the scenes designing, selecting green products and managing the entire construction process resulting in this certification."
LEED certified buildings save money for families, businesses and taxpayers; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and contribute to a healthier environment for residents, workers and the larger community. Over 44,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, comprising over 8 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and countries.
The Hamilton Partners 22-story office tower at 222 Main Street, which houses Phillips Edison's office, is LEED Gold certified and was designed by the internationally acclaimed architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and done so to the highest level of environmental standards. Additionally, local architects, GSBS Architects, who have been at the forefront of sustainable design for more than three decades, designed Phillips Edison's office.
Phillips Edison achieved LEED Silver certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in the six LEED categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation in Design. The following highlights some of the office's eco-friendly achievements:
- Building materials with recycled content were used throughout the building office.
- Lighting and mechanical systems offer comfort by providing natural light, clean air and thermal comfort, and are controlled by motion and sound sensors.
- Designers focused on re-using existing office furniture materials and decorative glass to provide a pleasant environment within the new first class office.
- ENERGY STAR-rated equipment and appliances equal to 77 percent, by rated power, have been installed.
- Doors were manufactured using Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood.
"Phillips Edison's LEED Silver certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. "The urgency of USGBC's mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Phillips Edison serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish."
Phillips Edison & Company is committed to becoming an industry leader in energy efficiency, alternative power sources, recycling and other initiatives that will help preserve and protect the environment. Their Green Options Team includes property management, construction and development associates who are researching and implementing energy efficient and eco-friendly programs at the company's properties across the country.

As more intelligent IoT applications shift into gear, they’re merging into the ever-increasing traffic flow of the Internet. It won’t be long before we experience bottlenecks, as IoT traffic peaks during rush hours. Organizations that are unprepared will find themselves by the side of the road unable to cross back into the fast lane. As billions of new devices begin to communicate and exchange data – will your infrastructure be scalable enough to handle this new interconnected world?

Containers are all the rage among developers and web companies, but they also represent two very substantial benefits to larger organizations. First, they have the potential to dramatically accelerate the application lifecycle from software builds and testing to deployment and upgrades. Second they represent the first truly hybrid-approach to consuming infrastructure, allowing organizations to run the same workloads on any cloud, virtual machine or physical server. Together, they represent a ver...

As operational failure becomes more acceptable to discuss within the software industry, the necessity for holding constructive, actionable postmortems increases. But most of what we know about postmortems from "pop culture" isn't actually relevant for the software systems we work on and within. In his session at DevOps Summit, J. Paul Reed will look at postmortem pitfalls, techniques, and tools you'll be able to take back to your own environment so they will be able to lay the foundations for h...

Overgrown applications have given way to modular applications, driven by the need to break larger problems into smaller problems. Similarly large monolithic development processes have been forced to be broken into smaller agile development cycles. Looking at trends in software development, microservices architectures meet the same demands. Additional benefits of microservices architectures are compartmentalization and a limited impact of service failure versus a complete software malfunction....

The last decade was about virtual machines, but the next one is about containers. Containers enable a service to run on any host at any time. Traditional tools are starting to show cracks because they were not designed for this level of application portability. Now is the time to look at new ways to deploy and manage applications at scale. In his session at @DevOpsSummit, Brian “Redbeard” Harrington, a principal architect at CoreOS, will examine how CoreOS helps teams run in production. Attende...

DevOps has often been described in terms of CAMS: Culture, Automation, Measuring, Sharing. While we’ve seen a lot of focus on the “A” and even on the “M”, there are very few examples of why the “C" is equally important in the DevOps equation. In her session at @DevOps Summit, Lori MacVittie, of F5 Networks, will explore HTTP/1 and HTTP/2 along with Microservices to illustrate why a collaborative culture between Dev, Ops, and the Network is critical to ensuring success.
