AT&T Filling About 130 Jobs Across North Carolina, Building On More Than $1.6 Billion Investment Over Three-Year Period To Enhance Local Networks

Investment Expands Access to Nation's Most Reliable 4G LTE Network, AT&T U-verse Services; Brings Powerful Fiber-Optic Connections to More North Carolina Businesses

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T has about 130 job openings across North Carolina, including about 60 new jobs, building on more than $1.6 billion the company invested in its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in the state between 2011 through 2013.

This investment is driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance network speed, reliability, coverage and performance for residents and business customers. In 2013, AT&T hired more than 1,100 people across North Carolina to keep up with network expansion and retail demand, among others.

AT&T continues to invest and hire in 2014. The 130 positions the company is filling in North Carolina are a mix of retail sales, technician and call center jobs.

Advancing its Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan to expand and enhance its wireless and wired IP broadband networks, AT&T in 2013 made 878 network upgrades in North Carolina, including new cell sites, addition of wireless and wired network capacity, and new broadband network connections. Additionally, AT&T expanded the reach of its network, providing access to U-verse® Internet and video services to more than 39,000 new customer locations, and delivering powerful fiber-optic connections to 3,779 business locations at 180 multi-tenant business buildings and business parks.

Notable North Carolina network enhancements in 2013 included:

  • Launched 4G LTE in 14 new markets: Sanford, Rocky Mount-Wilson, Henderson, Outer Banks, Asheville, Goldsboro, Kinston, Dunn, New Bern, Albemarle, Greenville, Morehead City, Jacksonville and Hickory. The service was expanded in six others: Charlotte-Gastonia, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro-Winston Salem, Fayetteville, Wilmington and New Bern.
  • Nearly doubled residential and small business Internet speeds in Charlotte, Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem, and Raleigh with AT&T's U-verse High Speed Internet Power, providing speeds up to 45 Mbps downstream and up to 6 Mbps upstream.
  • Brought AT&T Digital Lifesm to Charlotte and Raleigh. Digital Life is an all-digital, fully integrated, wireless home management system, giving customers flexibility to manage their home from their smartphone, tablet or PC.

AT&T provides the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network today, covering more than 280 million Americans with 4G LTE service. 4G LTE deployment is ahead of schedule; AT&T plans to be substantially complete with deployment by the summer of 2014.
