GCT Semiconductor and D2 Technologies Integrate VoLTE and IR.94 Video Call Into Chipset Solution for Mobile and Automotive (M2M) Applications

Joint Solution Validated With Top Tier U.S. and Korean Operators

SANTA BARBARA, CA and SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/27/14 -- GCT® Semiconductor, a leading designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, and D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, today announced integration of D2's vPort 4G+ IMS software with GCT's GDM7243S 4G LTE mobile chipset to enable VoLTE and IR.94 IP video call functionality for mobile and machine to machine (M2M) devices. The two companies successfully completed interoperability testing (IOT) and demonstrated the joint solution in mobile and automotive applications with top-tier U.S. and Korean mobile network operators.

GCT's GDM7243S is the latest LTE solution that integrates a separate CPU for processing of VoLTE. D2's VoLTE software is completely ported and running inside GDM7243S without an external processor.

"GCT and D2 are committed to continued integration and testing to enable the commercialization of VoLTE in mobile smartphones and tablets, and in emerging applications such as M2M, automotive and fixed-wireless access routers," said Doug Makishima, chief operating officer for D2 Technologies. "As more device types adopt LTE-based technology, the successful integration of IMS IP communications capabilities such as VoLTE, IR.94 video and RCS 5.1 / joyn, represents an important enabler for OEMs and network operators seeking to deliver evolved services."

"We are pleased to continue working closely with D2 and reaching this significant milestone for VoLTE, demonstrating bidirectional voice and video communication between a machine and smartphone user," said Alex Sum, vice president of sales and marketing at GCT Semiconductor, Inc. "This opens the door to carriers and mobile device makers, showing that this communication is possible on a commercial LTE network."

D2's mCUE® 4G is an advanced IMS IP communications software solution for the Android OS platform, supporting the IR.92 VoLTE, IR.94 video call and RCS (5.1 and joyn) GSMA standards to deliver IP communications features like HD voice, real time video call, instant message, presence, SMS and VCC on 3G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi networks. As the first IP communications client deployed by a 4G mobile operator, it is field proven and delivers carrier-grade voice and video quality, and demonstrated interoperability. mCUE 4G is a complete communications client, providing all key layers from the UI and protocol stacks, a fully embedded media engine that includes a complete VoIP DSP module with wideband CODECs, and optimized video framework integration that supports native hardware video acceleration. It is available in both embedded (native) and downloadable app versions, and is GSMA joyn accredited.

For IoT to grow as quickly as analyst firms’ project, a lot is going to fall on developers to quickly bring applications to market. But the lack of a standard development platform threatens to slow growth and make application development more time consuming and costly, much like we’ve seen in the mobile space. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Mike Weiner, Product Manager of the Omega DevCloud with KORE Telematics Inc., discussed the evolving requirements for developers as IoT matures and conducte...
The Software Defined Data Center (SDDC), which enables organizations to seamlessly run in a hybrid cloud model (public + private cloud), is here to stay. IDC estimates that the software-defined networking market will be valued at $3.7 billion by 2016. Security is a key component and benefit of the SDDC, and offers an opportunity to build security 'from the ground up' and weave it into the environment from day one. In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Reuven Harrison, CTO and Co-Founder of Tufin,...
With SaaS use rampant across organizations, how can IT departments track company data and maintain security? More and more departments are commissioning their own solutions and bypassing IT. A cloud environment is amorphous and powerful, allowing you to set up solutions for all of your user needs: document sharing and collaboration, mobile access, e-mail, even industry-specific applications. Mobile, social, Big Data, and cloud have fundamentally changed the way we live. “Anytime, anywhere” access to data and information is no longer a luxury; it’s a requirement, in both our personal and professional lives. For IT organizations, this means pressure has never been greater to deliver meaningful services to the business and customers.
Container technology is sending shock waves through the world of cloud computing. Heralded as the 'next big thing,' containers provide software owners a consistent way to package their software and dependencies while infrastructure operators benefit from a standard way to deploy and run them. Containers present new challenges for tracking usage due to their dynamic nature. They can also be deployed to bare metal, virtual machines and various cloud platforms. How do software owners track the usag...
