Craftsmanship continues to be part and parcel of human society even after hundreds of years

Historical craftsmanship has continued to be part and parcel of human society generation after generation.

OSLO, Norway, March 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Historical craftsmanship has continued to be part and parcel of human society generation after generation. Although 21st century craftsmanship tools have transformed significantly, the concept has remained the same. A lot of people argue that the modern day innovation and advancement in technology can trace its roots back to traditional craftsmanship. Whether that is true or not, the bottom line is craftsmanship and craftsmen are alive and kicking and continue to play a key role in modern society. A lot of observers say that even though craftsmen have been here with us for centuries, not many people know exactly what they do and how they do it.

From a historical perspective, the truth is håndverkere (craftsmen) can actually do anything with their hands. From simple tasks such as furniture design to complex mechanics such as automobile design, craftsmen have the skill and technical know-how to get the job done. For those who may find it hard to believe this to be fair they can't be blamed. In this world of advanced technology it may be difficult to see how one person can do all that yet even so, there is little proof to support this fact. The biggest difference between 21st century craftsmanship and centuries back is that today there is more specialization. While a lot of craftsmen can do virtually everything, a lot choose to focus on an area they feel they are best at.

Craftsmanship is attributed with precision, creativity and innovation. While many observers agree that the world of craft is more hands-on than machine based, it is not easy to deny that the integration of technology in modern day craftsmanship has improved the concept. Among some of the major machines that are now part of modern day craftsmanship, power tools, heat processing tools and drilling tools are among the most important ones. The beauty of craftsmanship is that craftsmen can work with anything including metal, glass, wood or even clay. A lot of observers also add that today craftsmen are also highly trained in industrial processes.

Although there are a number of craftsmen who work in small workshops, a bigger share is based in high tech manufacturing. Unlike in the past where craftsmanship was acquired through apprenticeship, training in craftsmanship today is class-based. However it is important to note that craftsmanship is a talent and a passion. In craftsmanship, learning from experience is more important than learning in class. In addition to this, aspiring craftsmen are also advised to learn from experts in the industry by visiting exhibitions.

Over the years, most craftsmen have and continue to work privately instead of being employed. However this does not mean they can't work as employees in a company that needs their skills. A lot of observers note that craftsmanship work is not about the money and almost all craftsmen do what they do because they love it. Big companies however these days are keen on attracting craftsmen in their teams using big money contracts and deals.
