INDIAN WELLS, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/03/14 -- Oracle (NYSE: ORCL)
Oracle today announced it will sponsor the inaugural Oracle Collegiate Tennis Challenge at the 2014 BNP Paribas Open on finals weekend, March 15-16.
The initial challenge will include matches among four NCAA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association teams: Baylor University, University of Illinois, Tulsa and the University of California-Berkeley. The matches will be played on the final weekend of the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
Indian Wells has become the premier tennis venue in the world. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison acquired the Indian Wells Tennis Center and the BNP Paribas event in 2009 and immediately began upgrading the facility. At this year's event, Indian Wells will debut its new 8,000-seat Stadium 2.
"We are committed to providing support for both professional and collegiate tennis," said Larry Ellison. "There is no venue in the world better equipped to host this first-time collegiate event than the newly expanded Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California."
Oracle President Mark Hurd, who attended Baylor on a tennis scholarship, is a strong supporter of collegiate tennis. The Hurd Tennis Center at Baylor University was recently selected to be the host for the 2015 NCAA Tennis Championships. Hurd said he is hopeful that the Oracle Collegiate Tennis Challenge will become a fixture during the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in the future.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase the skill levels of today's collegiate tennis players," Hurd said. "We hope this event will encourage more fans to support and follow collegiate tennis in their communities."
All matches will count toward the official collegiate team records for the 2014 season.
The Oracle Collegiate Tennis Challenge is free for patrons with BNP Paribas Open tickets or event credentials for the respective dates.

The Internet of Things will challenge the status quo of how IT and development organizations operate. Or will it? Certainly the fog layer of IoT requires special insights about data ontology, security and transactional integrity. But the developmental challenges are the same: People, Process and Platform and how we integrate our thinking to solve complicated problems. We are always online. We access our data, our finances, work, and various services on the Internet. But we live in a congested world of information in which the roads were built two decades ago. The quest for better, faster Internet routing has been around for a decade, but nobody solved this problem. We’ve seen band-aid approaches like CDNs that attack a niche's slice of static content part of the Internet, but that’s it. It does not address the dynamic services-based Internet of today. It does...

The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to simplify and streamline our lives by automating routine tasks that distract us from our goals. This promise is based on the ubiquitous deployment of smart, connected devices that link everything from industrial control systems to automobiles to refrigerators. Unfortunately, comparatively few of the devices currently deployed have been developed with an eye toward security, and as the DDoS attacks of late October 2016 have demonstrated, this oversight can ...
