Oracle Business Intelligence Gets Ground Breaking Collaborative BI Technology via BITeamwork

BI Users Can Now Comment on Dashboards, Add Cell Annotations, and Reveal BI ROI

TEGA CAY, S.C., March 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Oracle's flagship analytics product, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), now gives users the ability to comment on dashboards and collaborate within the application suite via BITeamwork. The first of its kind, BITeamwork is a Collaborative BI plug-in framework for OBIEE developed by Oracle Partner, Art of BI Software.  Art of BI Software is a South Carolina based startup and the brainchild Christian Screen, co-author of the first book on Oracle Business Intelligence 11g, who co-founded the company in mid-2013. BITeamwork is a collaboration management solution that integrates seamlessly into the OBIEE software suite and augments the user experience (UX) of the web-based OBIEE portal with collective intelligence functionality.

Collaborative BI is the applied concept of collective intelligence within a Business Intelligence system. This is accomplished by using social networking techniques such as posting relevant commentary on dashboards, liking comments, and encouraging user participation via gamification.  BITeamwork's ground breaking framework extends Oracle BI by allowing cross-system commentary within Oracle BI itself and optionally with third party social networks such as Salesforce.com Chatter, Microsoft Yammer, and Citrix Podio which is a first for the Business Intelligence industry.

"Cell annotations and comment aggregation are the two most popular features amongst our customers", says Christian Screen, Chief Geek and President at Art of BI Software. BITeamwork incorporates a familiar Facebook "Like" feature into the solution for OBIEE which allows users to "Like" a comment they find helpful or insightful.  By aggregating the comments with the highest shared sentiment, a feedback loop is generated in a historically one-way push-data-to-end-users BI system. "Many organizations have the challenge of identifying the ROI in their Business Intelligence program. BITeamwork helps answer this ROI question by giving the enterprise a means to quantify user contributions as a by-product of giving users what they want; which is to contribute their knowledge into the system that helps make key decisions about their business." says Screen. Cell annotations provide users the ability to comment on a specific cell value in a data table or pivot table showing on an analytical dashboard, in the context of the user's current perspective, which is not possible in most Business Intelligence solutions. "These two items alone give any BI System using our technology a nice advantage over their competition." says Screen.

BITeamwork complements organizations seeking to innovate within their Information Technology departments and boosts overall user adoption of their Oracle Business Intelligence solution. BITeamwork version 2.7 for OBIEE was recently released and is now generally available.  The BITeamwork development roadmap includes functionality for Embedded BI which allows for embedding graphs and charts on external portals such as Microsoft SharePoint and other key Collaborative BI features for the Oracle Mobile BI solutions. Art of BI Software plans to develop BITeamwork and other key solutions for several BI vendors in order to fill feature voids common in all BI Vendor offerings such as data caching, multi-architect development, and of course, collaboration.

Culture is the most important ingredient of DevOps. The challenge for most organizations is defining and communicating a vision of beneficial DevOps culture for their organizations, and then facilitating the changes needed to achieve that. Often this comes down to an ability to provide true leadership. As a CIO, are your direct reports IT managers or are they IT leaders? The hard truth is that many IT managers have risen through the ranks based on their technical skills, not their leadership abi...

All organizations that did not originate this moment have a pre-existing culture as well as legacy technology and processes that can be more or less amenable to DevOps implementation. That organizational culture is influenced by the personalities and management styles of Executive Management, the wider culture in which the organization is situated, and the personalities of key team members at all levels of the organization. This culture and entrenched interests usually throw a wrench in the work...

Virtualization over the past years has become a key strategy for IT to acquire multi-tenancy, increase utilization, develop elasticity and improve security. And virtual machines (VMs) are quickly becoming a main vehicle for developing and deploying applications. The introduction of containers seems to be bringing another and perhaps overlapped solution for achieving the same above-mentioned benefits. Are a container and a virtual machine fundamentally the same or different? And how? Is one techn...
My team embarked on building a data lake for our sales and marketing data to better understand customer journeys. This required building a hybrid data pipeline to connect our cloud CRM with the new Hadoop Data Lake. One challenge is that IT was not in a position to provide support until we proved value and marketing did not have the experience, so we embarked on the journey ourselves within the product marketing team for our line of business within Progress. Keeping pace with advancements in software delivery processes and tooling is taxing even for the most proficient organizations. Point tools, platforms, open source and the increasing adoption of private and public cloud services requires strong engineering rigor - all in the face of developer demands to use the tools of choice. As Agile has settled in as a mainstream practice, now DevOps has emerged as the next wave to improve software delivery speed and output. To make DevOps work, organization...
DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. As software becomes more and more complex, we, as software developers, have been splitting up our code into smaller and smaller components. This is also true for the environment in which we run our code: going from bare metal, to VMs to the modern-day Cloud Native world of containers, schedulers and micro services. While we have figured out how to run containerized applications in the cloud using schedulers, we've yet to come up with a good solution to bridge the gap between getting your contain...
