Junction Solutions, a leading provider of vertical, market-specific on-premise and on-demand software applications and services for the food and beverage, and multi-channel retail sectors, today announced that Thad Neal, director of Consulting for Junction Solutions, was named to the 2014 Pros to Know by Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine. This is the second year in a row Junction Solutions has been recognized for this award.
Now in its 14th year, the Supply & Demand Chain Executive “Pros to Know” awards recognize supply chain executives in manufacturing and non-manufacturing enterprises who are leading initiatives to help prepare their companies’ supply chains for the significant challenges of today’s business climate. This year’s list includes individuals from software firms and service providers, consultancies or academia, who have helped their supply chain clients or the supply chain community at large prepare to meet these.
"Supply Chain is increasingly recognized as a strategic differentiator for leading small, medium and large enterprises, and Supply Chain leaders have become crucial to the success of the enterprise in meeting the challenges of what truthfully has been called a turbulent economy,” said Barry Hochfelder, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive. “Our Pros to Know listing highlights many of these outstanding executives and their accomplishments, and it offers a roadmap for other leaders looking to leverage Supply Chain for competitive advantage.”
“It’s an honor to be recognized in the 2014 Pros to Know,” said Neal. “This award further underscores Junction Solutions’ commitment to deliver the products and services which directly address the evolving and complex supply chain challenges of the food and beverage, CPG, retail and life sciences industries and enable companies to improve their distribution operations, increase warehouse productivity, reduce waste and operational costs, and generate new revenue opportunities.”
Neal has more than 20 years of experience in IT and supply chain management. In his career, he has managed nearly 100 supply chain projects and technology implementations for food and beverage manufacturers, retailers and distribution companies. He has helped develop new enterprise software applications which provide customers with total visibility into their supply chain, as well as custom shipping solutions. His project implementations have promoted change management and incorporated best practices that enabled customers to better manage growth, drive more process efficiencies, reduce costs and improve profitability.

You have your devices and your data, but what about the rest of your Internet of Things story? Two popular classes of technologies that nicely handle the Big Data analytics for Internet of Things are Apache Hadoop and NoSQL. Hadoop is designed for parallelizing analytical work across many servers and is ideal for the massive data volumes you create with IoT devices. NoSQL databases such as Apache HBase are ideal for storing and retrieving IoT data as “time series data.”

Clearly the way forward is to move to cloud be it bare metal, VMs or containers. One aspect of the current public clouds that is slowing this cloud migration is cloud lock-in. Every cloud vendor is trying to make it very difficult to move out once a customer has chosen their cloud. In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, Naveen Nimmu, CEO of Clouber, Inc., will advocate that making the inter-cloud migration as simple as changing airlines would help the entire industry to quickly adopt the cloud wit...

As-a-service models offer huge opportunities, but also complicate security. It may seem that the easiest way to migrate to a new architectural model is to let others, experts in their field, do the work. This has given rise to many as-a-service models throughout the industry and across the entire technology stack, from software to infrastructure. While this has unlocked huge opportunities to accelerate the deployment of new capabilities or increase economic efficiencies within an organization, i...

WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of “data” has been limited to text chat and file download – all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, will look at di...

Mobile messaging has been a popular communication channel for more than 20 years. Finnish engineer Matti Makkonen invented the idea for SMS (Short Message Service) in 1984, making his vision a reality on December 3, 1992 by sending the first message ("Happy Christmas") from a PC to a cell phone. Since then, the technology has evolved immensely, from both a technology standpoint, and in our everyday uses for it. Originally used for person-to-person (P2P) communication, i.e., Sally sends a text...
