The landmark cafeteria chain is giving a classic fish and chips dish a flavorful twist with batter incorporating Shiner beer from the famed Spoetzl Brewery. Founded in 1909 and located in the Hill Country, Spoetzl is the oldest independent brewery in Texas.
Priced at $10.99 and available through April 18, 2014, the Shiner Beer Battered Fish and Chips meal features cole slaw, fries and a hushpuppy. The dish is one of several Lent-friendly items available through the season. Additional fish-focused classics include:
- Fried Fish – a tender Haddock fillet that is coated in a signature cracker crumb breading then deep fried until golden brown
- Baked Almondine - a delicious Pollock fillet topped with seasoned bread crumbs and toasted almonds
- Blackened Tilapia – a Tilapia fillet pan-seared to perfection in a zesty mix Cajun spices
- Baked White Fish – a tender, baked Pollock fillet topped with a creamy lemon pepper sauce
