Android tablets are quickly leaving Apple's iPads in the dust as the Google-centric tablets now account for 61.9 percent of sales in 2013, compared with 36 percent for Apple, Gartner reports.  Read Original Content

New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Congressman José E. Serrano have announced new legislation that would require a kill switch on all smartphones.  If the phone were stolen, you'd call your provider and they'd have to "kill" the phone by making it completely inoperable and wiping all personal data from the device. Read Original Content

Demand for Apple's iPhone 5S smartphone remains strong six months after its launch.

Firefox OS, an upstart smartphone operating system aimed at challenging the Apple and Google duopoly, will power a new category of $25 smartphones for developing countries, the California-based nonprofit Mozilla Foundation.  Read Original Content

Apple’s Australian smartphone market share has fallen to around 35 percent while Google’s Android is now more widely used than Apple’s iOS in every major market except Japan, according to new Kantar Worldpanel figures.  Read Original Content

Average smartphone use in Germany was 81 minutes per day in 2013, up by three minutes from 2012, according to the Mobile Monitor report from Goldmedia.
