Amerio Law Firm Warns California Farmers, Farm Workers of Possible Financial Difficulties Because of Drought

The Bankruptcy Attorneys at the Amerio Law Firm, URL http://www.ameriolaw.com/, Warn Farmers and Workers of Possible Drought-Related Financial Problems

SACRAMENTO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/10/14 -- The Sacramento bankruptcy lawyers at the Amerio Law Firm represent clients who are facing legal problems that include several different types of bankruptcy cases, tax issues, matters relating to personal injury, DUI and many others. The attorneys at the firm, as part of their service to the public in general, remain abreast of developments that could affect people they serve and those they could eventually help. As such, the firm hereby alerts the public to an article that was recently published that details the potential extent of the damage that farmers and farm workers could face based on the drought that is currently enveloping California.

The article was published by Reuters on February 5, 2014. The article was entitled, "Drought forces California farmers to idle cropland" and a link to the article can be found here. The article states initially that farmers in the state are expected to idle up to 500,000 acres of cropland this year because of the current drought that is believed to be the worst in the 119 years that this aspect of the climate has been measured in the state.

This current drought comes off of a previous year in which moisture was also abnormally low, prompting Governor Brown to recently declare a state of emergency. He asked residents to voluntarily cut their water usage by 20 percent immediately as a response. The drought is also expected to prompt what is believed to be an unprecedented cutoff of state-supplied water that is currently sold to 29 irrigation districts and municipalities. The article goes on to state that there could be more cuts like this on the way.

These developments could lead to billions of dollars in overall losses and damages by way of a decreased crop of produce along with a rise in consumer prices for those products. In addition, these decisions could put the jobs of nearly 120,000 people at risk and put farms themselves in danger of failing to turn a profit during this growing and harvest season.

"This drought could be catastrophic for people who depend on the farming industry to make ends meet and for those who need food prices to remain where they are," said Ashley Amerio, an attorney at the Amerio Law Firm. "Farmers, farm workers and consumers who find themselves in financial trouble need to make sure that they get the legal advice they need as soon as possible so that they can possibly avoid extremely penal situations such as losing their farms," Amerio added.
