According to Gartner's recent assessment of the industry, entitled Market Share Analysis: Customer Relationship Management Software, Worldwide, 2012, Web-based CRM vendor Salesforce.com is now the world's leading CRM software vendor with a 14% market share in 2012, reflecting the increasing migration of businesses to Web-based models, which are often highly scalable and more affordable than installed systems. Indeed, according to the report, 40% of all CRM software sold in 2012 worldwide was software-as-a-service (SaaS) based', and the authors expect this figure to continue to increase over the coming years.
