Canal Insurance Deploys Guidewire System for Billing

Canal Insurance Company (Canal), a leading commercial trucking insurer, and Guidewire Software, Inc. (NYSE: GWRE), a provider of software products to Property/Casualty insurers, today announced that Canal has successfully deployed Guidewire BillingCenter® to manage its billing operations including agency bill.

Canal, an early Guidewire customer that has been in production with Guidewire ClaimCenter since 2004, decided it needed to update its billing platform to better serve its agents and customers. BillingCenter delivered the vast majority of Canal’s functional requirements out-of-the-box, and based on its ClaimCenter experience, the company knew the system would be highly flexible and configurable.

“The functional completeness of BillingCenter, along with our familiarity with its technology platform, contributed to the ease with which we implemented BillingCenter,” said Adrian Brown, chief information officer, Canal Insurance.

Canal has implemented BillingCenter across all of its lines of business and its agent distribution channel and is currently live nationwide.

BillingCenter is enabling Canal to:

  • Provide a more seamless billing process approach integrated with internal and third party systems;
  • Standardize billing practices on a single company-wide system reducing operating costs; and
  • Leverage high quality and accurate system data to make informed business decisions.

“We are already experiencing several benefits from BillingCenter,” said Crystal Pruitt, billing systems supervisor, Canal Insurance. “We are not only impressed with the robust functionality and precision that BillingCenter has brought to our billing transactions, it has given us a platform for our future growth.”

“We congratulate Canal on its successful implementation of BillingCenter,” said Alex Naddaff, vice president, Professional Services, Guidewire Software. “We have a great, longstanding relationship with Canal, one of our earliest customers, and we are especially proud to have played a role in this project.”

Guidewire BillingCenter® is a comprehensive billing and receivables management system built on the core design principles of automation, control and flexibility. BillingCenter allows you to deliver insurance your way by making it easier to automate the billing lifecycle; design flexible billing, payment and delinquency plans; manage agent commissions; and enable rapid integration with external payment systems. BillingCenter is available as a standalone system or as part of Guidewire InsuranceSuite™, and can be integrated to a Property/Casualty insurer’s legacy systems or third party applications.

Mobile, social, Big Data, and cloud have fundamentally changed the way we live. “Anytime, anywhere” access to data and information is no longer a luxury; it’s a requirement, in both our personal and professional lives. For IT organizations, this means pressure has never been greater to deliver meaningful services to the business and customers.
Digital Transformation is the ultimate goal of cloud computing and related initiatives. The phrase is certainly not a precise one, and as subject to hand-waving and distortion as any high-falutin' terminology in the world of information technology. Yet it is an excellent choice of words to describe what enterprise IT—and by extension, organizations in general—should be working to achieve. Digital Transformation means: handling all the data types being found and created in the organizat...
