Kandou Bus to Participate in OIF 56 Gb/s Panel at OFC 2014

Company to Present Alternative Architecture for 56 Gb/s Links Utilizing Kandou's Chord(TM) ERNZ Signaling

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND -- (Marketwired) -- 03/11/14 -- Brian Holden, V.P. of Product Management at Kandou Bus, will participate in a panel discussion at OFC 2014 entitled "56 Gb/s serial: Why, What, When?". During this panel discussion, he will highlight an alternative architecture for 56 Gb/s links that uses Kandou's Chord™ ENRZ signaling instead of NRZ or PAM-4 signaling.

OFC, the Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exposition, is one of the world's leading optical technology events. The panel at OFC is sponsored by the OIF, the Optical Internetworking Forum, which has defined the CEI series of high-speed interface Interoperability Agreements and is working the 56 Gb/s generation of those interfaces.

Kandou Bus has proposed its Ensemble NRZ (ENRZ) modulation technology for use in two OIF 56 Gb/s rate interface specifications. ENRZ is the type of Chord™ signaling that is optimized for the highest data rates. It delivers three bits per symbol over four correlated wires, produces NRZ-shaped receive eyes, and is compatible with binary decision feedback equalizers. These properties make it amenable to SerDes-like implementations.

"ENRZ is a key interface technology that will extend the lifetime of copper interconnect," said Holden. "Using ENRZ will help the industry keep up with the relentless pace of network bandwidth increase. By increasing the data rate per pin, ENRZ allows system architects to reduce the baud rate by 33% and reduce overall power consumption significantly."

Bandwidth and power challenges for next-generation links are being addressed by the industry's leading standards development organizations such as OIF, IEEE and JEDEC. Kandou advocates for industry standards, contributing its technology and support via membership and officer positions within these organizations.
