The Greater Zurich Area is one of Europe's regions with the highest economic potential. In the ranking of the fDi magazine, the Greater Zurich Area ranked second out of 10 European regions. It even captured first place in the smaller European regions category.
Every two years the fDi magazine, published by the Financial Times, embarks on a search for the cities and regions of the future. Economic potential, business friendliness, cost effectiveness, infrastructure, human capital and lifestyle are compared in this comprehensive study.
Greater Zurich Area at the top
Switzerland and in particular the Zurich region have done very well in the latest "European Cities and Regions of the Future 2014/2015" study. The Greater Zurich Area came in second place among all European regions and in first place among the smaller regions with the highest economic potential. According to the fDi magazine, the strengths of the Greater Zurich Area include human capital and lifestyle. The city of Zurich offers great business climate
The city of Zurich came in first place in the mid-sized European cities economic potential category. Besides Zurich, Geneva also received good ratings from the fDi magazine. Infrastructure and business friendliness are also the city's strengths, with Zurich capturing first place in both those categories, too.
The Greater Zurich Area AG
The Greater Zurich Area AG, a nonprofit organization, is the investment promotion organization for the Greater Zurich business region. It connects international companies abroad to Switzerland's economic center and assists them in setting up companies and making investments in the Greater Zurich Area. Its sponsor is the "Stiftung Greater Zurich Area Standortmarketing", a public-private partnership that was established in November 1998. Since that time, its membership has grown to include the cantons of Glarus, Grisons, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, Zug and Zurich, the region Winterthur, the city of Zurich as well as many renowned Swiss companies.
