DirectBuy Website Upgraded to Reflect Company's New Mission

Website inspires potential members through tools and testimonials

MERRILLVILLE, Indiana, March 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DirectBuy, the company that enables members to achieve significant savings across a wide variety of home and lifestyle products and merchandise, has upgraded its consumer website www.directbuy.com to reflect the new look and mission of the company.

"It is a time of significant change for the company. These exciting changes will reshape the way consumers benefit from DirectBuy," said CEO Mike Bornhorst.

The website is the first stop for consumers to learn more about a DirectBuy membership. The site is easy to navigate and contains a variety of videos, articles and information.

DirectBuy partnered with two leading web companies to ensure the redesigned DirectBuy.com would have the same customer-centric focus as its new initiatives. Ektron was chosen as the content management system (CMS) for its ability to support the new responsive design. The C2 Group was selected as the web design and development partner for their expertise in leading-edge responsive design and programming capabilities.

"DirectBuy.com is a great example of the Ektron web content management platform," said Bob Canaway, VP of Marketing at Ektron. "Their use of responsive web design shows DirectBuy's commitment to engage visitors across all devices and provide the best overall web experience."

Site objective:

The site's objective is to reveal DirectBuy's passion for helping families achieve a better lifestyle. The site allows anyone to access the information needed to plan a lifestyle upgrade. The new site recognizes the changing nature of online experiences and uses responsive design, making it easy to navigate on any device.

More than savings:

The selection of products is inspiring. Design ideas, how-to content and connections with local DirectBuy representatives make the site a source of inspiration and guidance. This includes a newly-developed Lifestyle Planner that helps members design their next living space, vacation and more.

"DirectBuy now offers a full-service travel program and, through our unique Lifestyle Planner on DirectBuy.com, members can plan for every phase of life," said Jim O'Keefe, VP of Merchandising.

Real-life connections:

Visiting a local showroom is vital in understanding the value of a membership.  The site offers multiple ways to contact showrooms. Clients find they are more prepared to visit after browsing the site.

"We're constantly asking 'What do our members want?' That's the essence of the new DirectBuy and DirectBuy.com," said CEO Mike Bornhorst.

My team embarked on building a data lake for our sales and marketing data to better understand customer journeys. This required building a hybrid data pipeline to connect our cloud CRM with the new Hadoop Data Lake. One challenge is that IT was not in a position to provide support until we proved value and marketing did not have the experience, so we embarked on the journey ourselves within the product marketing team for our line of business within Progress. As software becomes more and more complex, we, as software developers, have been splitting up our code into smaller and smaller components. This is also true for the environment in which we run our code: going from bare metal, to VMs to the modern-day Cloud Native world of containers, schedulers and micro services. While we have figured out how to run containerized applications in the cloud using schedulers, we've yet to come up with a good solution to bridge the gap between getting your contain...

Apache Hadoop is emerging as a distributed platform for handling large and fast incoming streams of data. Predictive maintenance, supply chain optimization, and Internet-of-Things analysis are examples where Hadoop provides the scalable storage, processing, and analytics platform to gain meaningful insights from granular data that is typically only valuable from a large-scale, aggregate view. One architecture useful for capturing and analyzing streaming data is the Lambda Architecture, represent...

Providing the needed data for application development and testing is a huge headache for most organizations. The problems are often the same across companies - speed, quality, cost, and control. DevOps has often been described in terms of CAMS: Culture, Automation, Measuring, Sharing. While we’ve seen a lot of focus on the “A” and even on the “M”, there are very few examples of why the “C" is equally important in the DevOps equation.
