Companies demonstrate multi-vendor optical Long Haul interoperability between router and DWDM system
SAN FRANCISCO, California, March 12, 2014 - Coriant, a global supplier of dynamic metro-to-core transport solutions, today announced the latest progress in its collaboration with Juniper Networks, the industry leader in network innovation, to create an integrated packet transport network (IPTN), which the two companies are demonstrating live this month at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC 2014). Recent joint R&D between the two networking innovators resulted in the first multi-vendor line side interworking between router and DWDM system suitable for long haul (LH) transmission.
This technology advancement will enable network operators to efficiently deploy a converged packet optical infrastructure that increases network capacity while lowering costs. Proven in leading carrier networks, the IPTN solution provides the foundation for faster and more reliable services optimized for high bandwidth applications driving network growth.
The IPTN solution is a combination of the Coriant hiT 7300 DWDM system, Coriant TransNet planning tool, and TNMS network management system with industry-leading Juniper Networks® MX Series and PTX Series routers. The latest interoperability test was carried out on line side interworking of PTX 100G DWDM interfaces with hiT 7300 transponders and line system. The results highlight new use cases in seamless packet optical networks, which now include regeneration of router interfaces and handoff between routers from different vendors, which were not previously attuned on the line side.
At OFC 2014, Coriant and Juniper Networks will demonstrate key functionality of their joint IPTN solution. At the Coriant (#2511) and Juniper (#309) booths, visitors will be able to see a live demonstration of line side interworking of 100G DWDM wavelengths. Both companies are committed to their collaboration on the IPTN solution and will continue to drive the full scope of packet optical integration including the interworking of the data plane, control plane and management plane based on standardized, open interfaces.
"We see this collaboration between Coriant and Juniper as an important step that allows operators to offer reliable and scalable networks for richer services to its end-users by a tighter integration of the IP/MPLS and optical network layers," said Uwe Fischer, Chief Technology Officer at Coriant. "Both companies are highly motivated to create integrated packet network transport solutions to contend with the exponential growth in data and to offer long-term support to our customers from now and well into the future."
"Juniper Networks has a long-standing history of developing open, interoperable solutions for our customers. Extending our partnership with Coriant is another example of Juniper working with best-in-class technology partners to simplify network infrastructure and help customers scale. Our established relationship with the optical networking development team at Coriant extends our collaboration as multilayer interworking continues to be critical to the performance of our customers' networks," said Paul Obsitnik, Vice President, Service Provider Marketing at Juniper Networks. "We are pleased with the test results that highlight additional use cases that Coriant and Juniper can offer to operators."
Coriant, founded as an independent company in 2013, is an industry-leading supplier of dynamic metro-to-core transport solutions. We serve over 500 customers globally, including 90% of the world's top 50 service providers. Our end-to-end product portfolio and software-defined networking solutions enable mobile and fixed lined operators to reduce network complexity, increase service velocity, and improve resource utilization as transport networks scale in response to a new generation of high-bandwidth services and applications. In most cases, it is convenient to have some human interaction with a web (micro-)service, no matter how small it is. A traditional approach would be to create an HTTP interface, where user requests will be dispatched and HTML/CSS pages must be served. This approach is indeed very traditional for a web site, but not really convenient for a web service, which is not intended to be good looking, 24x7 up and running and UX-optimized. Instead, talking to a web service in a chat-bot mode would be muc...
