OAKVILLE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 03/13/14 -- MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are reminding revelers that all the shamrocks in the world won't change your luck if you drive impaired this St. Patrick's Day.
"Before their night begins, drivers should consider the consequences that come with getting behind the wheel impaired," said Allstate Canada President and Chief Executive Officer John O'Donnell. "You could face a licence suspension, fines, Criminal Code charges or worse, you could cause a crash that kills or injures someone."
No one ever thinks an impaired driving crash will happen to them. Yet, every day, on average, 4 people are killed and 175 people are injured in impaired driving crashes which are completely preventable.
"Everyone may be Irish for the day but no one should rely on their famous luck to get home safely," said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. "If you're going to be out celebrating St. Patrick's Day by having some drinks, leave the car at home. Call a cab, take public transit or arrange for a designated driver."
This St. Patrick's Day, count on good planning and responsible decisions rather than luck:
-- Don't drive impaired, -- Don't ride with a driver who is impaired, -- Call 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.
