Aframe announced the success of its cloud video production and asset management platform at the FOX Sports 1 broadcast channel. FOX Sports 1’s Assignment Desk relies on Aframe technology for automated ingest and delivery of content from its global network partners and freelance sports journalists, called “stringers” for news media submission workflow.
Launched in the fall of 2013, FOX Sports 1 features a variety of sports including: NFL programming, college basketball, college football, NASCAR, soccer, UFC and starting in 2014, Major League Baseball. FOX Sports 1 leverages Aframe’s ability to accept secure footage of various sporting personalities and events, from a wide range of professional equipment from around the world, and then to convert this content into the DVCPRO format for editing or playout to air. Aframe also creates a traditional H.264 proxy for their review and approval process which provides a more efficient contribution file delivery model.
The Aframe-backed workflow won a 2014 Visionary End User award for FOX Networks Group at the Storage Visions conference in January.
“Aframe’s private cloud solution provides an easy mechanism for making content easily accessible for people who need it immediately, in a self-service model,” said Wendy Allen, vice president of media engineering at FOX Sports. “It’s a new paradigm shift that will save FOX time and money.”
In addition, FOX Sports 1 has used Aframe’s secure private cloud video production platform to:
- Save bandwidth on proxy transcoding - because Aframe transcodes FOX Sports 1’s original content to the h.264 proxy at the time of ingest, instead of requiring Fox download all footage prior to transcoding.
- Lessen on premise transcoding software reliance - by using Aframe to handle the heavy lifting of transcode work, since Aframe can accept a wide range of professional video formats.
- Maximize storage utilization - since FOX Sports 1 doesn’t need to download all footage that is sent in by stringers, it requires less onsite storage capacity, mitigating capital costs.
”Broadcast workflows today still contain steps where manual intervention, such as transcoding, is essential - and in competitive TV formats like sport, that simply can’t exist any longer,” said David Peto, CEO of Aframe. “We’re honored to be recognized by FOX Sports 1 for the innovative way Aframe saves time and money in getting content from around the world and on air in dramatically improved efficiency,” he said.
Aframe is a cloud video production system with capabilities in collaboration, review and approval, archive and tagging. Already many thousands of video professionals around the world rely on Aframe to organize and streamline video production or as an adjunct to existing media asset management (MAM) solutions. Aframe users upload their raw video footage from wherever they are in the world onto Aframe’s cloud, securely store it there, and share it with anyone, anywhere as they collaborate on TV, film, corporate video or advertising spots. The timecode-specific metadata that Aframe users generate can be transferred directly from the cloud into any of the top 3 NLE platforms. Once there, the metadata relinks with the original media – retaining all user changes automatically. If desired Aframe can provide logging services that makes video discoverable and expedite finding the perfect clip.
Aframe also can serve as a cloud-based MAM architecture to centralize a library of production and broadcast-ready video assets and supporting documentation. For more information visit www.aframe.com.

There are 66 million network cameras capturing terabytes of data. How did factories in Japan improve physical security at the facilities and improve employee productivity? Edge Computing reduces possible kilobytes of data collected per second to only a few kilobytes of data transmitted to the public cloud every day. Data is aggregated and analyzed close to sensors so only intelligent results need to be transmitted to the cloud. Non-essential data is recycled to optimize storage.

Microservices are a very exciting architectural approach that many organizations are looking to as a way to accelerate innovation. Microservices promise to allow teams to move away from monolithic "ball of mud" systems, but the reality is that, in the vast majority of organizations, different projects and technologies will continue to be developed at different speeds. How to handle the dependencies between these disparate systems with different iteration cycles? Consider the "canoncial problem" ...

My team embarked on building a data lake for our sales and marketing data to better understand customer journeys. This required building a hybrid data pipeline to connect our cloud CRM with the new Hadoop Data Lake. One challenge is that IT was not in a position to provide support until we proved value and marketing did not have the experience, so we embarked on the journey ourselves within the product marketing team for our line of business within Progress. In his session at @BigDataExpo, Sum...

Virtualization over the past years has become a key strategy for IT to acquire multi-tenancy, increase utilization, develop elasticity and improve security. And virtual machines (VMs) are quickly becoming a main vehicle for developing and deploying applications. The introduction of containers seems to be bringing another and perhaps overlapped solution for achieving the same above-mentioned benefits. Are a container and a virtual machine fundamentally the same or different? And how? Is one techn...

DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm.
