Worldwide forum kicks off with opening reception at Square headquarters, features two days of inspiring presentations from female senior executives, as well as opportunities to share knowledge and create communities

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., March 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Don't miss IEEE Women in Engineering's (WIE) inaugural International Leadership Conference, kicking off 1 May with an opening reception at Square headquarters in downtown San Francisco that is free to young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

With a theme of "LEAD BEYOND – Developing Inspirational Women Who Change the World," the IEEE WIE leadership conference is a worldwide forum engaging and connecting women in engineering and technology that is expected to attract more than 300 women professionals. WIE's International Leadership Conference provides an opportunity for professional women from around the globe to create communities that fuel innovation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and learn through highly interactive sessions designed to foster discussion and collaboration.

The conference features two full days of inspiring presentations from dozens of high-level female senior executives, including:

  • Diane Bryant, Senior Vice President at Intel,
  • Liz Centoni, Vice President and General Manager at Cisco,
  • Jaya Kolhatkar, Vice President of Engineering at Walmart Labs,
  • Vanessa Slavich from Square, and
  • Seeta Hariharan, Vice President at Tata Consultancy.

Although women make up slightly more than 50 percent of the world's population, women are chronically under-represented in STEM fields (around 11 percent for electrical engineering and 18 percent in computer science). Fewer than 24 percent of senior management globally is female, and even lower in technology companies.

Topics for the two-day event are:

  • Inspiration– Top women executives share advice, anecdotes, and career advice on becoming a technical executive, starting your entrepreneurial journey, pursuing an MBA, becoming a thought leader, or building and selling your business.
