KAPAA, Hawaii, March 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lawrence Bowman Family Foundation is excited to announce the donation of a $135,000 Vet Rocket portable x-ray system to the Marine Mammal Center. This is the latest significant gift from Falko Partners and the Bowman Family Foundation in their campaign to protect the Hawaiian monk seal from extinction. "We've committed nearly ten years and over $500,000 to saving monk seals, and we'll continue to help however we can," says Larry Bowman. "This exciting project is the culmination of a year-long team effort to deliver the first portable x-ray technology for monk seals."
"Vet Rocket is an amazing diagnostic tool that will allow us to quickly assess the health of Hawaiian monk seals directly on the beach," said Dr. Shawn Johnson, Director of Veterinary Science at The Marine Mammal Center. "Thanks to this breakthrough solution in on-beach diagnosis, the generosity of Falko Partners, and a successful collaboration between The Marine Mammal Center and NOAA, these critically endangered animals will have a better chance of survival."
Adds Larry Bowman, "This is a great example of a private/public partnership working together to save Hawaiian monk seals. We are especially grateful to Dr. Michelle Barbieri of NOAA for driving the solution. We do hope that our gift will inspire others to donate Vet Rocket systems to each Hawaiian Island for the benefit of this noble animal. Falko Partners is honored to have contributed to this solution."
Falko Partners aims to have a positive impact on the Kaua'i community through outreach and charitable giving via the Bowman Family Foundation. Major areas of focus include education and sports programs for children, species protection, and community welfare causes.
