City Year New York's Women's Board to Host Women's Leadership Workshop Featuring Monica Murphy of The Speech Improvement Company

BROOKLINE, MA and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - March 21, 2014) - The Speech Improvement Company today announced that Monica Murphy, a second generation Senior Coaching Partner, is the keynote speaker and presenter of the Women's Leadership Workshop hosted by the City Year New York's Women's Board. This interactive communications workshop, uniquely designed by a woman for women, draws upon Monica's 20-years of experience helping senior executives improve their communication skills and develop strategies, techniques and ease with communication.

"The City Year New York Women's Board members are passionate advocates for our work and giving them the opportunity to hear from The Speech Improvement's Monica Murphy will help support the growth and success of our organization," said Erica Hamilton, Executive Director of City Year New York. "Today's workshop provides a growing community of City Year champions with the tools and skills to become more effective communicators in their professional careers and philanthropic activities. We are thankful for Monica's time and excited to see the positive ripples that come from today's workshop."

City Year, a national education focused non-profit, launched its Long Term Impact goal in 2012 that will, when reached, dramatically increase the urban graduation pipeline. An important strategy for reaching this goal in New York was creating a Women's Board to engage women from a diverse range of industries and communities.

"Bain Capital and the City Year's Women's Board selected Monica to lead the Women's Leadership Workshop because of her wealth of knowledge and keen sensitivity in helping senior female executives develop stellar communication skills," said Dorothy Crocker Sumption, Director, Investor Relations, Sankaty Advisors LLC, an affiliate of Bain Capital, and current City Year Women's Board Member. "Our goal for this event is to give these women a skill set on which to draw that can help them improve their public speaking and general communication skills. It is a great way to raise awareness for City Year New York among a group of professional women who are already active in their communities."

Since its earliest days, Bain Capital and its employees have supported City Year with more than $25 million in donations and hundreds of volunteer hours. Bain Capital is proud to be working with City Year New York's Women's Board and The Speech Improvement Company on this workshop. Bain Capital is also honored to serve as presenting sponsor of City Year's 25th anniversary in 2014.

"It is an honor to be selected and recognized by City Year New York's Women's Board and Bain Capital to host this event for some of the most powerful female executives and philanthropists," said Murphy. "Developing outstanding communication skills is key to anyone's success because it builds upon and solidifies successful relationships. As women, we face unique challenges that we need to be aware of to successfully overcome. This workshop will identify those challenges, and further empower these already successful women, giving them useful techniques to help them raise their communications bar even higher."

Monica is a second generation Senior Coaching Partner with The Speech Improvement Company. For over 20 years, Monica has become a highly sought after coach and consultant to executives worldwide. She has changed thousands of people's lives around the world by helping them become more effective communicators. Monica will cover verbal organizational strategies, assessing how you really look and sound to your listeners, controlling nervousness and networking techniques. Some of her corporate clients include: Bain Capital, Beacon Capital Partners, Boston Celtics, Fidelity, Harvard Business School, IDC, MIT, Pegasystems, Ropes & Gray LLP, and Sankaty Advisors

This event will be held at Credit Suisse, One Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10010. The cost per attendee is $100 and all proceeds will go to benefit City Year.

All clouds are not equal. To succeed in a DevOps context, organizations should plan to develop/deploy apps across a choice of on-premise and public clouds simultaneously depending on the business needs. This is where the concept of the Lean Cloud comes in - resting on the idea that you often need to relocate your app modules over their life cycles for both innovation and operational efficiency in the cloud. "Once customers get a year into their IoT deployments, they start to realize that they may have been shortsighted in the ways they built out their deployment and the key thing I see a lot of people looking at is - how can I take equipment data, pull it back in an IoT solution and show it in a dashboard," stated Dave McCarthy, Director of Products at Bsquare Corporation, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Everyone knows that truly innovative companies learn as they go along, pushing boundaries in response to market changes and demands. What's more of a mystery is how to balance innovation on a fresh platform built from scratch with the legacy tech stack, product suite and customers that continue to serve as the business' foundation. In his General Session at 19th Cloud Expo, Michael Chambliss, Head of Engineering at ReadyTalk, discussed why and how ReadyTalk diverted from healthy revenue and mor...
Whether your IoT service is connecting cars, homes, appliances, wearable, cameras or other devices, one question hangs in the balance – how do you actually make money from this service? The ability to turn your IoT service into profit requires the ability to create a monetization strategy that is flexible, scalable and working for you in real-time. It must be a transparent, smoothly implemented strategy that all stakeholders – from customers to the board – will be able to understand and comprehe...
What happens when the different parts of a vehicle become smarter than the vehicle itself? As we move toward the era of smart everything, hundreds of entities in a vehicle that communicate with each other, the vehicle and external systems create a need for identity orchestration so that all entities work as a conglomerate. Much like an orchestra without a conductor, without the ability to secure, control, and connect the link between a vehicle’s head unit, devices, and systems and to manage the ...
You have great SaaS business app ideas. You want to turn your idea quickly into a functional and engaging proof of concept. The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to simplify and streamline our lives by automating routine tasks that distract us from our goals. This promise is based on the ubiquitous deployment of smart, connected devices that link everything from industrial control systems to automobiles to refrigerators. Unfortunately, comparatively few of the devices currently deployed have been developed with an eye toward security, and as the DDoS attacks of late October 2016 have demonstrated, this oversight can ...

More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smar...
