Tens of Thousands of Dollars in Product Held up in Transit
VANCOUVER, March 21, 2014 /CNW/ - KANDY Outdoor Flooring is urging all parties involved in the Vancouver trucking dispute that has shut down the Port of Vancouver to seek compromise and immediately end this dispute.
"I respect there are serious issues on the table but the work stoppage is seriously hurting our business and others," says KANDY Outdoor Flooring President Kelly Niessen. "We had one shipment on the water when the strike hit and another is ready to leave China now."
Niessen explains she must decide today whether to re-route the in-water shipment to Nanaimo and incur thousands of dollars in extra charges. If she chooses not to re-route and the dispute is not settled over the next few days, the costs could be even greater.
"Our small business can't really afford these unexpected costs," Niessen explains. "It impacts not just our profitability but also our customer expectations. We have deals signed and will be hard pressed to deliver on those deals if we can't bring our product to port in a timely way and on budget."
Niessen is happy both the BC and federal governments are engaged. She calls for all sides to negotiate and compromise to end this dispute as soon as possible.
BC, Ottawa and Port of Vancouver join forces
- KANDY Outdoor Flooring currently has 22,000 square feet of proprietary product in transit or ready to ship
- KANDY Outdoor Flooring provides and installs floating outdoor flooring systems for condo balconies
