29 Canadians Advance to Ice Cross Downhill World Championship Finals

Elimination Round Primes Canada, Austria and the USA for World Finals Victory, Couch Garden Crew Crowned Ice Cross Downhill Team World Champion

QUEBEC CITY, QC--(Marketwired - March 22, 2014) -  Day two of the 2014 Ice Cross Downhill World Championship season finale wrapped with a total of 29 Canadians advancing through to the World Finals race on March 22, 2014. The International Shootout, Elimination Round and Team Competition prepared Quebec City for what will be an unforgettable World Finals race tomorrow night, where thousands will watch Canadian favourites, including Scott Croxall of Calgary (ranked 3rd overall) and Dean Moriarty of Montreal (ranked 8th overall), battle for icy glory. Canada, Austria and the USA continue to lead the world standings, with hometown hero John Fisher, of Unionville, ON powering down the gruelling 480-m urban ice track in the fastest time in today's International Shootout.

"This is the best track I've seen all season and it feels great to compete on home soil," Fisher recounts. "I know that I can win, I just can't get too confident now."

The International Shootout determined the strongest 32 Ice Cross Downhill athletes of the season, who will automatically advance to tomorrow's final event. Today's Elimination Round gave another 64 Canadian and International men one last chance to battle for a place in the World Finals on Saturday night, with Canadians representing a clear majority of the 32 advancing athletes.

The top 64 Ice Cross Downhill athletes of the Red Bull Crashed Ice 2014 season now wait with baited breath to be part of the most challenging World Championship race in history. The final races will start tomorrow with the women's World Finals, followed by the 2014 Ice Cross Downhill World Championship race, certain to be the most memorable of the year.

The 2014 Ice Cross Downhill Team World Champions

Marco Dallago's powerhouse team, Couch Garden Crew, arrived in Quebec City leading the Team Competition ranks from their first three performances in Helsinki, Saint Paul, and Moscow this season. Canada's hometown team Living The Dream finished the Team Challenge in second place, just 50 points behind the number one team and falling short of a victory. In the end, the Couch Garden Crew secured their dominance in the Team Competition, pulling off a clutch victory to be crowned the 2014 Ice Cross Downhill Team World Champion.

The 2014 Ice Cross Downhill World Championship

The only sport of its kind and arguably the fastest sport on skates, the Ice Cross Downhill World Championship has returned to Quebec City for the ninth consecutive event this week. Over a series of elimination rounds, heats of athletes from across Canada and around the world race down a 480-metre urban ice track that swerves through the streets of Quebec City, chock-full of new obstacles that includes a first-ever 3m ice gap.
