NASCAR Executives, Business & Education Leaders to Join North Carolina Business Committee for Education at NASCAR Technical Institute for Regional Meeting

- Post-secondary technical training school to hold breakfast conversation focusing on education and workforce preparedness-

MOORESVILLE, N.C., March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time, the North Carolina graduation rate is above the national average.  The North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE), housed in the Office of the Governor of North Carolina, is poised to provide ongoing support to ensure this notable student achievement continues. One way in which it does so is through raising awareness and discussion.

On Thursday, March 27 from 7:15 – 9:00 a.m., NASCAR Executives and the region's key business and education leaders will conjoin at NASCAR Technical Institute to participate in a discussion with the North Carolina Business Committee for Education. The conversation will be centered around education and workforce preparedness, and specifically, the shifting focus on education priorities necessary to prepare students for the new economy and global work environment. Thursday's breakfast will serve as a platform for NASCAR to announce their new High School STEM initiative with Universal Technical Institute and will help to set the stage for a larger conversation on the intersection of business and education. 

WHAT:

The North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) will be holding its regional meeting at NASCAR Technical Institute's Mooresville campus on Thursday, March 27. Attendees at the breakfast will hear from key business and education leaders in the area, including Lt. Governor Dan Forest; Jerry Ellner, National Director of High School Development at Universal Technical Institute and NASCAR Technical Institute; Dr. Michael Lynch, Vice President of Green Innovation at NASCAR; Eric Guckian, Senior Advisor on Education, Office of the Governor; and John Dodson, Vice President of NASCAR & Community Relations at NASCAR Tech.




The morning's conversation will focus on education and workforce preparedness, and will touch on topics such as the current state of education in North Carolina and STEM in the workplace. Speakers will also discuss how, through collaborative efforts, the region's key stakeholders can help to drive systemic changes in education that are vital to students' success, and that ultimately will help to attract a world-class workforce in North Carolina.
