Call for Entries: Construction Writers Association Seeks Applications for Journalism Awards

CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 03/24/14 -- The Construction Writers Association (CWA) is now accepting applications for its 2014 Journalism Awards. These awards recognize key projects, innovative ideas and the best of craft by CWA members. The early deadline is April 30 and the late deadline is May 21, 2014.

CWA presents six CWA Journalism Awards at its annual conference. Five awards are presented with the Robert F. Boger Award, and one award is presented as the Kneeland "Ned" Godfrey Award. The awards are presented to the author or editor of the winning article.

This competition showcases the best of the best in construction-related communications and is a prestigious acknowledgment that the work of these writers has met a very high standard of excellence. The competition, which is judged by seasoned business-to-business media professionals, is open to any industry-related individual, corporation, association or publication. Members and non-members are encouraged to submit their best work for recognition by CWA.

"The contest was recently expanded to include additional categories that consider publication/website/magazine revenue, "said Tina Grady Barbaccia, president of CWA.

"This change helps level the playing field and allows entrants to more accurately compete against their peers," Barbaccia said. "It also provides an opportunity for more writers to be a part of the contest."

Categories for the Robert F. Boger Award include: Feature articles, special reports, editorials, videos and blogs. These articles must be published in construction industry magazines and journals. Entries submitted should be written by editors or the publication staff, or by freelance professionals who were commissioned by a publication to provide an article, special report or editorial.

The Kneeland "Ned" Godfrey Award is presented for a body of work published in construction industry magazines and journals. A single author is recognized for superior journalistic and writing skills over the course of a year.

The early-bird deadline is April 30. The early-bird entry fee for CWA members is $125 plus $100 for each subsequent entry. For nonmembers, the early-bird entry fee is $250 plus $175 for each subsequent entry. The late deadline for entries is May 21. The late deadline entry fee is $175 for members plus $150 for each subsequent entry. The late deadline entry fee for non-members is $250 plus $175 for each subsequent entry. All submissions must be postmarked no later than the deadlines.

"This is a great time for non-members to join the Construction Writers Association because non-members will receive the member entry rate," Barbaccia said. "CWA has brought journalists and marketing communications professionals together for more than 50 years, and is the premier organization when it comes to educational workshops and hands-on experience with some of the country's finest construction projects. We hope our non-members take this opportunity to join and take advantage of the significant savings."

The CWA Journalism Awards will be presented in September 2014. A special thank you to the Award Company of America for sponsoring all of CWA's Awards and the overall Awards Program.

Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id...
While DevOps most critically and famously fosters collaboration, communication, and integration through cultural change, culture is more of an output than an input. In order to actively drive cultural evolution, organizations must make substantial organizational and process changes, and adopt new technologies, to encourage a DevOps culture. Moderated by Andi Mann, panelists discussed how to balance these three pillars of DevOps, where to focus attention (and resources), where organizations might...

When growing capacity and power in the data center, the architectural trade-offs between server scale-up vs. scale-out continue to be debated. Both approaches are valid: scale-out adds multiple, smaller servers running in a distributed computing model, while scale-up adds fewer, more powerful servers that are capable of running larger workloads. It’s worth noting that there are additional, unique advantages that scale-up architectures offer. One big advantage is large memory and compute capacity...
"When we talk about cloud without compromise what we're talking about is that when people think about 'I need the flexibility of the cloud' - it's the ability to create applications and run them in a cloud environment that's far more flexible,” explained Matthew Finnie, CTO of Interoute, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 20th Cloud Expo, held June 6-8, 2017, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY.
The taxi industry never saw Uber coming. Startups are a threat to incumbents like never before, and a major enabler for startups is that they are instantly “cloud ready.” If innovation moves at the pace of IT, then your company is in trouble.
