SolarWinds to Debut a New Approach to Exchange Monitoring at MEC 2014

SolarWinds Latest AppInsight for Exchange Technology Enables Sysadmins and Exchange Admins to Interpret End-User Email Behavior and Proactively Address Email as a Business-Critical Application, Avoiding Downtime and the Disruption of Business Functions

AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 03/25/14 -- SolarWinds (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, today announced its participation at the Microsoft Exchange Conference, MEC 2014, which brings together Exchange and Office 365 IT Professionals on March 30 through April 2, 2014, in Austin, TX. SolarWinds will showcase its latest version of SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM) featuring AppInsight for Exchange, which empowers sysadmins and Exchange admins to proactively prevent downtime of business-critical email application availability with comprehensive technology that has traditionally only been available in expensive, specialized tools.

With SolarWinds SAM's new AppInsight for Exchange, admins can now automate routine data collection -- formerly done by running tens or hundreds of PowerShell scripts -- and employ the unique agentless technology to quickly identify and tackle performance issues affecting the Microsoft Exchange Server all in a single dashboard that includes visibility into the surrounding server, hardware and application performance metrics monitored by SolarWinds SAM as well.

"IT Pros in our thwack community have told us that email has become the de-facto mission critical application, and in the spirit of our user-centric, purpose-built product approach, SolarWinds is giving them a new automated approach to monitoring Exchange," said Suaad Sait, executive vice president, products and markets, SolarWinds. "SolarWinds' new AppInsight for Exchange seeks to simplify the previously tedious and time-consuming email management tasks to instead focus on the forward-thinking application and IT infrastructure improvements. At MEC 2014, we are excited to talk to IT Pros about how SolarWinds can provide visibility into how applications like Exchange are running with SolarWinds SAM as well as a number of other products that provide integrated visibility across the application stack."

In most cases, it is convenient to have some human interaction with a web (micro-)service, no matter how small it is. A traditional approach would be to create an HTTP interface, where user requests will be dispatched and HTML/CSS pages must be served. This approach is indeed very traditional for a web site, but not really convenient for a web service, which is not intended to be good looking, 24x7 up and running and UX-optimized. Instead, talking to a web service in a chat-bot mode would be muc...

It's easy to assume that your app will run on a fast and reliable network. The reality for your app's users, though, is often a slow, unreliable network with spotty coverage. What happens when the network doesn't work, or when the device is in airplane mode? You get unhappy, frustrated users. An offline-first app is an app that works, without error, when there is no network connection.

As someone who has been dedicated to automation and Application Release Automation (ARA) technology for almost six years now, one of the most common questions I get asked regards Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). Specifically, people want to know whether release automation is still needed when a PaaS is in place, and why. Isn't that what a PaaS provides? A solution to the deployment and runtime challenges of an application? Why would anyone using a PaaS then need an automation engine with workflow ...
