Barnhill Contracting Company Selects Dexter + Chaney’s Spectrum® Construction Software as its Complete Business, Project and Equipment Management Solution

Barnhill Contracting Company, a heavy highway and general contractor with offices and asphalt plants throughout North Carolina, has selected Dexter + Chaney’s Spectrum® Construction Software for its accounting, business management, project management and equipment management needs. Barnhill is a full-service construction firm offering a wide range of services from preconstruction, to early site development to final building completion. Because of its multiple functions and offices, Barnhill was looking for a single solution to streamline workflow and better track operations.

“One of the things we really liked with Spectrum was that all of the applications were together in a single system with a single data repository. They weren’t separate systems needing separate configurations and management,” said Scott Fisher, Barnhill’s vice president of information services. “In demos, one of the things that impressed us was the Info Bar and the ease-of-use in navigation that it brought to the table. The dashboards we can create and use also are a really nice feature that make it easy to get the information you need.”

Fisher added that Spectrum being a true-browser-based solution was also a key advantage. “We liked that it is web-based and you could access it anywhere,” he said. “It really articulates what we wanted to do with our operations going forward.”

CDP Inc., a Dexter + Chaney partner, was instrumental in helping pull the deal together. Mark Jones, senior account executive with CDP, noted that Spectrum’s equipment management capabilities were a key feature for Barnhill. “I knew Spectrum would be a good fit,” Jones said. “They needed the ability to track equipment maintenance and repairs, and fully grasped the benefit of Spectrum’s functionality to track and charge equipment that is sitting idle on a project. The better job you do of keeping equipment in the field and out of the shop, the more money you make.”

Fisher concurred, adding that the ability to drill down deep into equipment information was a feature that was strongly desired. “With Spectrum, you can do that really well,” he said.

“We’re excited to provide Barnhill with a complete software solution for the accounting, project management and equipment management sides of their business,” said John Chaney, CEO and co-founder of Dexter + Chaney. “Barnhill is a strong, successful company with a dedicated plan for future growth. We are committed to aiding our customers’ growth and part of that commitment is providing innovative software that meets their complex business needs.”
