US opportunities in HLS, cybersecurity and infrastructure protection to be spotlighted 2 April in Tel Aviv

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) on 2 April will present “Gateway for Israeli Companies: US Opportunities in Homeland Security, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection,” a breakfast roundtable program at the Dan Tel Aviv Hotel for businesses looking to expand into the US market.

Supporting the morning program are the US Commercial Service, the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce, the Israel Advanced Technology Industries, an umbrella organization that represents the high tech and life science industries, and the Virginia-Israel Advisory Board.

Presentations will include:

  • The US market for businesses in the homeland security, cybersecurity and infrastructure protection sectors – US Commercial Service.
  • Successful models of entering the US market – Partners2Partners.
  • Case studies about Israel-based companies that have entered the US market through Fairfax County: CYREN, El-Far Electronic Systems, Gilat Satellite Networks.
  • Legal issues for Israeli companies entering the US market – Rimon PC.

Yair Ephrati, director of the FCEDA’s Tel Aviv office, and Asher Kotz, FCEDA business development manager for Israel, will discuss Fairfax County business opportunities for Israeli companies. Fairfax County is minutes from Washington, DC, and is home to more than 6,700 technology companies.

“With CYREN’s US headquarters located in Fairfax County, we have daily exposure to the significant talent the area brings within the IT sector,” said Lior Samuelson, chairman and CEO at CYREN. “It’s this sizable pool of well-trained and experienced professionals that helped solidify Fairfax County as our location of choice.”

The FCEDA opened a Tel Aviv office in 2004 to work with Israeli companies interested in expanding in the US market. More than 20 Israeli companies, most in technology sectors, have a presence in Fairfax County.

“The cybersecurity and infrastructure safety protection market in the US will be worth billions of dollars annually for the foreseeable future, but it is important for Israeli firms in the cyber market to understand that they will find many of these opportunities in the Washington, DC, market and specifically Fairfax County,” said Gerald L. Gordon, PhD, president and CEO of the FCEDA. “This event will help us identify those market opportunities for Israeli companies, while the growth of Israeli companies here will create jobs and diversify our economic base even further.”

Time magazine called Fairfax County “one of the great economic success stories of our time.” Business growth and innovation helps Fairfax County fund the nation’s top-rated school system and other public services that contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to global markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a vibrant investment capital community and a highly skilled, well-educated workforce.

The award-winning Fairfax County Economic Development Authority promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA offers site location and business development assistance, and connections with county and state government agencies, to help companies locate and expand in Fairfax County. In addition to its headquarters in Tysons Corner, Fairfax County’s largest business district, the FCEDA maintains marketing offices in seven important global business centers: Bangalore, Boston, Munich, London, Los Angeles, Seoul and Tel Aviv.

Today most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall. As with most new architectures, this dream takes significant work to become a reality. Today traditional IT approaches leverage well-architected compute/networking domains to control what applications can access what data, and how. DevOps includes rapid application development/deployment leveraging concepts like containerization, third-party sourced applications and databases. Such applications need access to production data for its test and iteration cycles. Data Security? That sounds like a roadblock to DevOps vs. protecting the crown jewels to those in IT.
