TSO Logic Earns Top Product of the Year Award From Environmental Leader

Application-Aware Power Management(TM) Software Selected for Scalable Applications and Impressive Results

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/26/14 -- TSO Logic(TM), developers of energy efficiency software for data centers, today announced that its Application-Aware Power Management(TM) software received Top Product of the Year Award recognition in the Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards.

Application-Aware Power Management(TM) is considered by judges as an exemplary product due to its scale of application and the impressive results it provided for TSO Logic customers. One judge said of Application-Aware Power Management(TM), "This seems like a big idea with scalable applications and material impact. New ways of delivering decision-quality data and actionable analysis is a very useful contribution!" Another judge added, "I liked the case study that they provided - highlighting actual savings numbers and performance improvements of 400%."

Application-Aware Power Management includes two integrated toolsets in one install, including; TSO Metrics which provides deep, unparalleled visibility into workload, performance, wasted energy, and untapped cost savings, and; TSO Power Control, which controls the power state of servers based on user demand without impacting end user performance. For one company, the software demonstrated a 56% reduction in power usage in a 600-server data center with a forecasted cost savings of nearly $600,000 over five years.

The Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards is a program recognizing excellence in products and services that provide companies with energy and environmental benefits, or in projects implemented by companies that improved environmental or energy management and increased the bottom line.

Scores were determined by a panel of independent judges headed by Matthew Littlefield of LNS Research and also included judges from companies including Microsoft, Arrow Electronics, Owens Corning, Citigroup Inc., Sam's Club, and the University of California, Berkeley.

With today's crowded playing field, energy and sustainability professionals have a notoriously difficult time knowing what products to choose to help their companies increase energy, environmental and sustainability performance. The Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards give companies a solid base of products, vetted by experts, from which to choose.

"The caliber of the entries this year was even more impressive than last year, and showed the excitement and innovation taking place in the industry today," says Paul Nastu, publisher of Environmental Leader. "There was tough competition for those that entered, and the products that were awarded Top Product or Project of the Year are those that the judges say have viable attributes that set them apart from others in the field."

"Over the years, data centers have garnered considerable attention for being huge consumers and wasters of energy," said Aaron Rallo, founder and CEO of TSO Logic. "For us, this recognition is confirmation that our Application-Aware approach to power management is a viable solution to the problem of energy waste at data centers."

Whether your IoT service is connecting cars, homes, appliances, wearable, cameras or other devices, one question hangs in the balance – how do you actually make money from this service? The ability to turn your IoT service into profit requires the ability to create a monetization strategy that is flexible, scalable and working for you in real-time. It must be a transparent, smoothly implemented strategy that all stakeholders – from customers to the board – will be able to understand and comprehe...
More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smart...
Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha...

In IT, we sometimes coin terms for things before we know exactly what they are and how they’ll be used. The resulting terms may capture a common set of aspirations and goals – as “cloud” did broadly for on-demand, self-service, and flexible computing. But such a term can also lump together diverse and even competing practices, technologies, and priorities to the point where important distinctions are glossed over and lost.

When it comes to cloud computing, the ability to turn massive amounts of compute cores on and off on demand sounds attractive to IT staff, who need to manage peaks and valleys in user activity. With cloud bursting, the majority of the data can stay on premises while tapping into compute from public cloud providers, reducing risk and minimizing need to move large files. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Scott Jeschonek, Director of Product Management at Avere Systems, discussed the IT and busin...
