Rajant Corporation to Showcase Wireless, Kinetic Mesh Networking Technology for Enhanced Railroad Safety at Expo Ferroviaria 2014

Rajant Corporation, the pioneer of Kinetic Mesh Networks and provider of proven, multi-frequency mesh networking solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate its new Rail Car Power Generator (RPG) at Expo Ferroviaria, taking place from April 1- 3 in Turin, Italy. Attendees will be able to experience first-hand how the RPG works in concert with the company’s field-proven line of wireless, kinetic mesh networking technology to increase productivity and enhance safety in rail operations – Hall 2, Stand 1004.

Now, more than ever, freight lines are looking for rugged, high availability wireless broadband communication networks that provide rail operators with real-time visibility into critical data on the health and performance of rail cars. This is essential for enabling faster, better decision making to reduce risk, prevent catastrophic mechanical failures and keep workers safe. Compounding the issue, however, is the need to keep these systems constantly powered across multiple moving assets.

Rajant’s Rail Car Power Generator meets this need by providing rail operators with a low-cost, low maintenance solution that produces up to 50 watts of DC power from the wheel of a standard rail car. This power can be used to charge a battery system, which in turn powers multiple other sensors including the Rajant BreadCrumb® wireless network. Together, these systems will keep operators informed on the health and performance of rail cars, including train speeds and locations, wheel sensors, freight status, fuel consumption, traffic optimization and more. It provides the ideal solution for modern rail communication needs, such as communication based train control, video monitoring, sensor networks and remote control at depots.
