Rajant Corporation to Showcase Wireless, Kinetic Mesh Networking Technology for Enhanced Railroad Safety at Expo Ferroviaria 2014

Rajant Corporation, the pioneer of Kinetic Mesh Networks and provider of proven, multi-frequency mesh networking solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate its new Rail Car Power Generator (RPG) at Expo Ferroviaria, taking place from April 1- 3 in Turin, Italy. Attendees will be able to experience first-hand how the RPG works in concert with the company’s field-proven line of wireless, kinetic mesh networking technology to increase productivity and enhance safety in rail operations – Hall 2, Stand 1004.

Now, more than ever, freight lines are looking for rugged, high availability wireless broadband communication networks that provide rail operators with real-time visibility into critical data on the health and performance of rail cars. This is essential for enabling faster, better decision making to reduce risk, prevent catastrophic mechanical failures and keep workers safe. Compounding the issue, however, is the need to keep these systems constantly powered across multiple moving assets.

Rajant’s Rail Car Power Generator meets this need by providing rail operators with a low-cost, low maintenance solution that produces up to 50 watts of DC power from the wheel of a standard rail car. This power can be used to charge a battery system, which in turn powers multiple other sensors including the Rajant BreadCrumb® wireless network. Together, these systems will keep operators informed on the health and performance of rail cars, including train speeds and locations, wheel sensors, freight status, fuel consumption, traffic optimization and more. It provides the ideal solution for modern rail communication needs, such as communication based train control, video monitoring, sensor networks and remote control at depots.

“Until now, rail operators have had limited to no visibility into critical communications data on the health and performance of their rail cars, largely because of the lack of a continuous power supply,” stated Bob Schena, President and CEO of Rajant Corporation. “As the scope and complexity of railroad data increases, so does the need for keeping wireless, high availability broadband communications systems constantly powered and connected. Rajant’s technology provides ‘always on’ connectivity and enables railroads to instantaneously and reliably connect thousands of moving assets, eliminating a ‘black hole’ in the transportation industry.”

Rajant Corporation’s Kinetic Mesh Networking technology provides reliable, secure broadband connectivity in which reliability actually increases as the network grows. Rajant BreadCrumb nodes interact with the railroad data command center across a meshed, self-healing network to provide critical, real-time information that touches all aspects of railroad operations. The nodes rapidly adapt to any changes in the network topology, assuring that IP traffic uptime and bandwidth are maximized.

Rajant solutions are based on the proven reliability of Rajant BreadCrumb wireless, portable mesh networking nodes and its proprietary InstaMesh® software, which enable continuous and instantaneous routing of wireless and wired connections. The Kinetic Mesh networks created by Rajant products allow for total network mobility, and this dynamic frequency utilization provides the ideal connectivity for any customer.

In addition to the Rajant Rail Generator, attendees of Expo Ferroviaria can learn more about Rajant’s proven portfolio of networking solutions for the railroad, oil & gasminingmilitary, first responder, municipalitiesservice provider and telco markets by visiting Hall 2, Stand 1004.

The security needs of IoT environments require a strong, proven approach to maintain security, trust and privacy in their ecosystem. Assurance and protection of device identity, secure data encryption and authentication are the key security challenges organizations are trying to address when integrating IoT devices. This holds true for IoT applications in a wide range of industries, for example, healthcare, consumer devices, and manufacturing. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Lancen LaChance, vic...
SYS-CON Events announced today that delaPlex will exhibit at SYS-CON's @CloudExpo, which will take place on June 6-8, 2017, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY. delaPlex pioneered Software Development as a Service (SDaaS), which provides scalable resources to build, test, and deploy software. It’s a fast and more reliable way to develop a new product or expand your in-house team.
Wooed by the promise of faster innovation, lower TCO, and greater agility, businesses of every shape and size have embraced the cloud at every layer of the IT stack – from apps to file sharing to infrastructure. The typical organization currently uses more than a dozen sanctioned cloud apps and will shift more than half of all workloads to the cloud by 2018. Such cloud investments have delivered measurable benefits. But they’ve also resulted in some unintended side-effects: complexity and risk. ...
Security, data privacy, reliability and regulatory compliance are critical factors when evaluating whether to move business applications from in-house client hosted environments to a cloud platform. In her session at 18th Cloud Expo, Vandana Viswanathan, Associate Director at Cognizant, In this session, will provide an orientation to the five stages required to implement a cloud hosted solution validation strategy.
The explosion of new web/cloud/IoT-based applications and the data they generate are transforming our world right before our eyes. In this rush to adopt these new technologies, organizations are often ignoring fundamental questions concerning who owns the data and failing to ask for permission to conduct invasive surveillance of their customers. Organizations that are not transparent about how their systems gather data telemetry without offering shared data ownership risk product rejection, regu...
When you focus on a journey from up-close, you look at your own technical and cultural history and how you changed it for the benefit of the customer. This was our starting point: too many integration issues, 13 SWP days and very long cycles. It was evident that in this fast-paced industry we could no longer afford this reality. We needed something that would take us beyond reducing the development lifecycles, CI and Agile methodologies. We made a fundamental difference, even changed our culture...
More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smart...
